When I open my eyes the first thing I see is a worried Ash.
"How long was I out?" I ask him and my voice is raspy.
"Two days, they put all three of us in the same cell because this was the only empty one." Ash says while helping me sit up.
"What happened after I was shot?" I ask.
"We were put in separate cars--the car you went in treated your wound." He says. "The one I went in the officer lectured me the whole time saying, 'If you are going to knowingly break the law don't resist the arrest.' He is right but we are full adult now, we should be able to love if we want to."
"It's okay, at least we are together." I say while coughing. "Where is Iris?"
"She was escorted to have a shower, I'm next then you--if you were awake by then." He says.
"Okay, I could do with I could do with a shower--and something to eat." I say rubbing my stomach.
"After we shower they give us dinner, nothing much--usually just a scoop of potatoes, a small piece of meat and a spoonful of corn." He says.
"I know we are considered criminals, but shouldn't they feed us more so we stay healthy? Isn't it against the law to feed us so little?" I ask.
"It is, but I don't think they care." He says. "They might give you extra because you have been asleep for almost three days now."
"Okay." I say then Iris walks back in the cells and tells Ash it's his turn in the shower.
"Hi." I say.
"Hi." She says after a long pause. "It's not your fault you know."
"It feels like it." I say sadly. "If I never pushed my self too hard I would have never fell and we would be in the woods on our way up to Canada."
"It's not, don't worry. We will find a way out of this joint if thats the last thing I do." She says smiling.
"Okay," I say with a slight smile. "What happened with Ash after I went unconscious?"
"Oh God, where do I begin." She says jokingly. "The second you passed out he was screaming and sobbing at the same time at the cops to let him go so he could make sure you were alive.
The cops had to put a gag in this mouth so he would stop screaming at them. After that he wouldn't stop crying."
"He did that?" I ask smiling slightly.
"Yeah, he really loves you, you know." She says smiling. "He knew they wouldn't let him go but he still tried."
"What have you been doing the past few days?" I ask trying to change the subject.
"Nothing really, all we did was eat, catch up on sleep, and talk." She says shrugging. "And when he thought I was asleep he would talk to you and tell you that he loves you and how he want's you awake soon."
"Really? That is so sweet." I say smiling.
"I hate lovey dovey crap." Iris says groaning and I laugh.
We talk about random things for a few more minutes until Ash gets out of the shower handing me a dry towel, "Your turn."
"Finally, that was the longest shower you have ever taken." I say laughing.
"I needed to be nice and clean for you." He says smirking.
"Weirdo." I say chuckling then walking into the bathroom to take a long hot shower.
I take off my clothes then step in the shower and look at the settings and see there is only cold water.
"Seriously? Only cold water?" I yell and I hear Ash and Iris laughing outside.
"It's prison not a five star hotel!" She yells making her and Ash laugh more.
So much for taking a long shower. I think. I hate taking cold showers.
I quickly wash my hair and body then get out and change into the clean clothes Ash left me in here.
"I hate cold water so much." I say while walking out of the shower
"I know, I didn't tell you because I wanted to hear you reaction." He says chuckling.
"Whatever." I say rolling my eyes and playfully slapping him.
