Gregor knew where to find a sword. His dad had a small armory in the master bedroom. A very small armory. No one in the family knew that he knew about it.

While his mother and sister anxiously waiting in the den, Gregor crept into into his parents' room.

They only had a few chests in the room, so it wasn't hard to find the one that contained the stone sword.

Gregor felt like a warrior when he held it.

He couldn't escape the house through the front door. That was obvious.

Instead he broke two holes in the wall big enough for him to fit through and climbed outside. He made sure to patch up the hole so that no creepers could hurt his mother and sister.

Gregor looked out into the flames, men, and monsters.

He was free.
...
The explosion ripped through the stone like it was paper. Once it was over, all that was left was a massive cavern.

About 40 soldiers (some armored, some not) stood among the wreckage. I guessed that the other 10 died in the explosion.

"For freedom!" I yelled loudly.

My wave ran into the destroyed base first.

The undefended squad barely had time to react. A few of them pulled out swords and rushed towards us. Since I wasn't a very good swordsman, I moved off to the side through my rushing unit and climbed up the wall of the cavern, pulling out my bow.

It was enchanted with flame, power III, and infinity. I had to admit that I was excited to try it out.

I found a ledge along the wall and surveyed the battle. Our side was definitely outnumbering Herobrine's and we still had more coming. We were also better prepared. For the first time, Herobrine was taken by surprise.

By now my bow was practically begging to be used. I pulled it out and began to snipe the enemy. It was immediately effective. The enemy began to literally go up in flames.

But then I heard a sound. It was a cry for help!

It came from behind me. Ignoring the enemy fire below me, I pulled out the pickaxe I'd borrowed from Motir (it seemed like so long ago) and began to mine out the stone behind me.

After I had broken even a block, I saw a face.

That sigh made me mine faster. Someone needed my help!

Once I had broken a doorway for them to step through, they collapsed in my arms. It was a girl.

"Are you okay?" I asked, looking down. She had pretty green eyes and soft brown hair that was cute even though it was mangled.

The girl moved herself off me once she realized where she was.

"Sorry! I uh- yeah, I'm fine, I think." She blushed. Then she looked confused, as if wondering. "What's going on? I- my mother!"

"Your mother?" I asked.

"Herobrine! He took her after he captured us! We have to find her!"

"Slow down, calm down. I'm the leader of the Resistance."

"Oh," she said, blushing a bit harder when she heard this. I pretended not to notice. "What's your name?" I asked her.

She stopped stuttering for a second. "Maria."

A group of medics found us and came to take Maria away o the HQ. I could tell she didn't like it. She kept protesting that she wanted to help and that she was an archer. But the medics wouldn't have it.

What's weird is that they let me continue fighting rather than stay with Maria.

So I continued to snipe the enemy, but then they were beginning to retreat.

I decided that we should return the base. We had successfully gotten rid of the enemy. It made me happier than words could tell. My first battle was a victory.

"Return to HQ!" I called down from my ledge. After that I began to to climb down. When I reached the floor, I saw Joseph rushing towards me.

"Hey, Ender!" He smiled.

"We're all alive," I said, smiling back.

"Of course, with you to lead us! I talked to the statistics master and he said that we had no casualties. That's a free night to party."

The idea of a party made me both nervous and excited. I'd only been to a few parties in my life.

As I walked back to the HQ, I thought about that. I also thought about Maria and my new friend Joseph. But one crucial thing never came to my mind.

Those voices were going to enact their plan tonight.
