"You are a jerk!" I yelled at Ben.
For the first time, Ben showed emotion, looking taken aback. "Excuse me?"
"Stop being so dang condescending! Be humble for once!"
Ben drew his sword and I noticed it was glowing. "I'm warning you, Ender," he growled.
"What? That you'll kill me?" I asked, not sure where all my bravery was coming from. Maybe it was just anger. "I'm sure killing will make you feel better, Ben. It won't bring Gregor and Jane back, though."
Ben's face grew red. "You little-"
"punk, I know. My whole family is dead, thanks to Herobrine, but I don't go around kidnapping people because of it!"
"Do you think you can lead the Resistance better than I can? How old are you, 10?"
"14. And yes, I think I can. You lead the HH from when it was made until you were 13, so yeah, I'm old enough."
"What do you want with me anyways?" Ben asked.
"I want you to go back to the way you were. The way the stories of the final battle tell you."
"Well, tragedies happen."
It was silent for a moment.
"I challenge you to a duel," I whispered.
"What?"
"I challenge you to a duel," I said louder. "Winner leads the Resistance. Loser dies."
...
12 years earlier
"Dad? Who's that?" The small boy asked, hearing the sound of hooves approach their door. It's nighttime, who could be visiting us? He wondered.
The boy's father looked out of the window and let a small gasp escape him. The boy waited patiently for his father's answer.
"Take your sister and go," the father said, turning.
"Dad?"
"Rob?" A woman, the boy's mother entered the living of their cabin. Behind her walked a redhead girl no older than 4, playing with a painting as she pasted it in different places on the wall.
"Cecelia," take the children and go. You must run," the father said urgently.
The mother seemed to know what was happening at once. "Rob, you told me I could help. I have to stay."
"Daddy? What's happening?" The little girl asked.
"You need to run, dearest," her father told her kindly. "Go out the back door with your brother and run as fast as you can. Mommy and Daddy will be there soon."
The girl nodded firmly and put her painting into her small inventory.
The boy, only 6, nodded also before taking his sister's hand and leading her out the back door. They began up the hill they lived on, looking down to their wooden house, wondering what was going on.
The children, instead of running, sat at the crest of the hill and waited.
At their house, screams began to be known.
The girl began crying, and the boy couldn't help the tears escaping his eyes either.
Their house was soon ablaze. They watched a man with white eyes walk out of their home. He mounted a horse and galloped away.
Their parents would not be coming.
For the next few days, they journeyed through the woods, the boy hunting the best that he could.
4 days after the accident, they met a girl by the creek where they had set up a "camp."
As the boy's sister played in the water, the boy approached the new girl.
"Hello?" He asked.
The girl looked up. "Who are you?"
"This is my sister Lora," the boy said, pointing to the little girl playing in the creek. "My name is Ben."
"Hi, Ben," the new girl smiled. "I'm Jane."
...Present day
I laid in my new new bunk given to me. My mind kept rifting as I wondered what would happen during the battle. How could I win? Ben would kill me. He was an amazing swordsman, one of the best. How in Notch's name could I be so stupid to challenge him?
Sleep didn't come easily. It took me nearly all night because of my wondering, but eventually sleep found me.
In the morning, some workers from the armory offered to help me suit up. I just chose to wear full chain-mail and use and infinity bow. Even though I wasn't the best archer, I used a bow more fluently than a sword.
After I ate breakfast alone in the mess hall, it was time for the battle.
Ridge found me and lead me to an arena. Along the way, he didn't talk to me at all. Maybe he was mad that I was about to take on one of his friends.
The arena I was to fight in was huge, covered with little rivers, trees, rocks, anything to make my death more exciting. Where would I die? What rock would my body lay on? I told myself that my death wasn't for sure. I still had a ranged weapon.
Ridge left me at the entrance to the arena without saying a word.
A voice flooded the crowded arena. Oh great, an announcer. "Welcome to Challenge 51, issued by Ender of Virtriv!" Challenge 51? I thought. How many people has Ben defeated? And how do they know the name of my village? "In this corner, we have the multi reigning champ," not me, "Ben, leader of the Resistance and former leader of the HH! He is armed with Herobrine's Sword!"
Suddenly I wished I'd worn better armor. That sword could kill in one hit.
The crowd cheered and Ben walked into the middle of the arena, holding the glowing sword. He was clad in full diamond armor. I was going to lose.
The filled stand continued to cheer Ben's name. Maybe I would die by them throwing potatoes at me.
"And in this corner, we have miner, Ender!" No one chanted or cheered as I walked out. In fact, I heard a few laughs and boos. "He is armed with his bow!"
I looked at Ben's eyes through his helmet. Time to do this.
A bell went off. The battle had begun.
