Joseph lead me into a room full of weapons. I supposed that went without saying, of course, he being a weapons master.
There were racks upon racks of swords, bows and armor.
They even had chests on the wall labelled "Ender Pearls", "Potions", and more.
"Like it?" Joseph asked, smiling.
"A lot," I told him.
"Well luckily for you, you have free reign over anything here."
"Anything?" I gasped.
Joseph laughed. "It's practically your private armory, besides your co's and me."
"You fighting today?" I asked him, beginning to check out stuff around the room.
"Yeah, Blast Protection unit. You?"
"I'm leading that unit. Speaking of which, can you show me some blast protection armor?"
"Absolutely." Joseph lead me to a corner with 5 chests, each labelled with a type of armor. A few blocks above, a sign read "Blast Protection".
"Nice," I whistled.
"Yeah. Doesn't a full set of diamond blast protection sound awesome?" Joseph agreed.
"Yep. That would be... a blast," I said, laughing.
Joseph glared at me. "Can you not? Your bad puns make you less of a leader."
"Oh come one! Didn't Ben make bad puns?"
"No, his were good. Now let's get you that armor."
...4 years earlier
Gregor's hand slipped, and the outside of the saddle popped off again. He groaned. This self adjusting saddle would never get done, he just knew it.
Suddenly, their house's front door burst open.
His sister and mother ran in, followed by his father. They all had sweaty faces and wide eyes.
Gregor stood up from his workbench desk and looked at his family. "What the nether is happening?" He asked.
Full of gasps and deep breaths, his father stumble through some words about creepers and fire. "I'm going to help kill them."
"Can I come too, dad?" Gregor asked immediately.
"Of course not, Gregor, you're only 12," his said, instantly dismissing the thought.
"Why not dad? I'm old enough to handle it!" Gregor protested.
"No, I won't allow it. Now I've got to go."
Since his father was a miner, Gregor's family got benefits from the mining company. That included a full set of iron armor and sword. Gregor's father put it on and ran out the door to battle.
Angry, Gregor retreated to his bedroom and stared out the window, seeing the flames fill the streets and creepers explode all over.
He was going to help fight, whether his family liked it or not.
...
Present day
My Blast Protection unit was the first wave of the battle. I had Joseph, who'd I'd become pretty good friends with, help lead with me.
Our job was to dig a tunnel around the perimeter of the base (very quickly, so we wouldn't get caught) and load it with TNT. Then we, along with the rest of the waves, could rush in and destroy the enemy base.
It was a pretty simple and effective plan. That is, if everything was to work.
My unit consisted of about 20 guys and 10 girls, all armed with at least some blast protection, a sword, TNT and a pickaxe.
The pep talk took place at the front gate of the mining system. I had no idea I had to give a pep talk until Ben told me, so I sort of had to improvise.
I stood on a couple rocks higher than the rest to give it. As I did, I thought it was funny that my first time in battle was as the highest ranking leader.
"This battle will be a success, I just know it. Once we win, we'll party all night long." For the first time, my mind went back to the voices I'd heard. The ones plotting something for tonight. "We are stronger, smarter, and we have a reason to fight." My voice rose and I grinned. "We will win this battle, and we will win the war!"
My group cheered and I saw Joseph jumping up and down in the crowd.
I lead us out into the mining system A member of the unit who was also a scout guided me through the tunnels that lead to the safest place to begin our dig.
When we got there, my unit told me to stay back and supervise. I tried to tell them that I was miner and great with a pickaxe, but they insisted on my safety. So I stayed at the mouth of the dig.
Since the base we were attacking was temporary, it didn't take long to dig the tunnel for TNT.
I had 2 people go in opposite directions to place the TNT and meet up where we had started the dig.
While we waited for them to do that, I had the rest of my unit stay back behind me.
Joseph and I stood and talked.
"So why'd you join the Resistance?" I asked him. "I mean, you're 12."
"Herobrine captured my parents and twin brother. I thought joining would be the best way to get revenge and maybe get them back," Joseph admitted. "But that was 5 years ago. There really isn't any hope now."
"Excuse me, 5 years ago?" I asked.
"Yeah. I was one of the first to join the Resistance, only 9 years old. That's how I got such a good spot. And after 2 years of wanting revenge on Herobrine, it was great."
"Dang," I siad.
Suddenly we all heard the sound of blocks being placed. One of the placers had returned. She put down her last blocks and ran down to join the group.
Shortly after, the other placer finished. He completed the dig by putting in the last TNT and also joined the group.
"Hey, it's time," Joseph told me.
"Back up, everyone!" I announced
My unit moved further back down the tunnel, including Joseph. I took out a flint and steel from my inventory and moved towards the TNT.
Taking a deep breath, I hit one of the pieces and heard it ignite.
"Move back!" I told the unit, rushing towards them.
The backed out of the way for me, and we all looked as the TNT went off.
It was time for battle.
