Emersyn
I woke up to a text from Conner, my tech guy telling me to stop by a little later. I sighed and checked the schedule my automated assistant, Ion, had made for me. My first interview was at 10. Granted that was later than I usually went in to work but I didn't usually have to deal with people on a personal level until much later in the day.
On top of generally not being a morning person and being worried about my best friend, tonight was the first night of the full moon and moon fever was in full effect, even though the moon itself was not visible. Being half Fae meant the moon's pull was not as strong but the urge to mate still left me irritable and cranky during the day. I would be fighting the moon's effects all day and once the sun went down things would get a whole lot worse. I needed to be home by full dark so that I could administer the tranquilizer I used every month instead of mating like every other lycanthrope on the planet.
I got dressed and left the house in record speed after eating enough food for 5 humans. I had also had packed a bag with a black parka, a black sweater, black leather pants and black flat snow boots with little spikes on them. I also packed a couple guns, just in case I ran into another dampener.
When I walked into Emersyn News it was quiet. Everyone had heard about Elfrida by now. She had never missed work before and her second in command would know if she was taking a sick day or vacation. I made a brief statement and retired to my office to look over the notes that Mr. Blaylock had sent over on the 5 candidates. I told the receptionist to send in the first one as soon as they got here.
The first candidate turned out to be a human witch with a master's degree in business administration and media communication. She answered all my questions without hesitation and correctly. She was clairvoyant and telepathic. Her resume indicated she had all the experience I was looking for and I wanted to hire her on the spot, but she tried to read my mind without permission and I wanted to teach her a lesson by making her wait. Humans are always so impatient.
The second candidate was a Halen Incubus. His happy energy brightened up the office and his sunny yellow eyes spoke of centuries of knowledge that no amount of schooling could teach. It turned out that he was looking to be my personal assistant. I had never used one before, but there definitely were benefits to hiring him on as my personal assistant, besides his great mind.
The third candidate was a vampire. He was less than 100 years old and had been an accountant during his life and run several businesses during his undead life. He was coming out of a decade long retirement and just wanted something to do part time. He seemed trustworthy enough and again his resume was excellent.
The fourth candidate was a demi-goddess. Her mother was the goddess Aphrodite and her father was some poor Greek soul who had the unfortunate luck to fall in love with an immortal. She had worked as an assistant for lots of powerful men and wanted to try working for a woman for a change. She was tough and fair, and she had worked for more than one big name Hollywood studio.
The last candidate made me question Mr. Blaylock's listening skills. I knew the man was a lycanthrope of the bear variety right away. The moon fever burning in him was much stronger than my own and was bringing mine to the surface. I wanted to stop the interview right then and there but one look at his resume and I knew he was the perfect person to help me run my security business.
By the time I was done with all the interviews it was closer to one o'clock than I would have liked. I decided on hiring Malik the Halen Incubus as my personal assistant, Sarah the human witch to help out with Emersyn News and Inouye Media, Aevanna the demi-goddess to help with running Faegems, and Brutus the werebear to help me run EI Security. I gave the list to my receptionist Sherri to call and let them know that they had all been hired. The only reason I didn't go with the vampire is because I needed more than part time help. I'm sure there are plenty of businesses out there that could use his expertise.
