Evan had problems. Just about every night, he'd bolt awake with tears in his eyes, shaking as he reached for Connor's hand. Then Connor would slowly sit up, knowing what it was, pulling Evan into his arms. The blond would mumble about stress or school or losing him or his insecurities he had or questions concerning their relationship. Connor was used to it. It didn't bother him at all, he knew Evan was filled with worries, and all he wanted was to protect him.

Sadly, though...that left a lot of time for Connor to beat himself down. He'd forget to tend to his own mental state sometimes, too wrapped up worrying about Evan. It wasn't his fault, or Evan's. It's just how life works. Sometimes you work so hard to keep your favorite flowers out of the garden tended that you forget to drink water yourself.  Sometimes you want to keep everyone else up...but never yourself.

Eventually that led to Connor's mentality just snapping. He couldn't take it. He felt himself piling up every day with stress and fear and anger and sadness. But...he didn't stop to unload those things off himself. He just kept trudging. He felt as if he couldn't, he had someone else to take care of. He could wait.

He could wait.

Just one more day.

He kept telling himself that.

He kept saying, “I can wait.” until the day he was listening to Evan ramble about how he would probably have to redo this semester of college...and he felt his skin get hot, his breathing a bit shaky...and he broke down into a mess of tears. Evan was immediately alarmed by this sudden outburst, but he knew a lot about...randomly crying...so he quickly pulled Connor into his arms, shushing him and mumbling, “In through the nose, out through the mouth.” It took a few tries before Connor actually listened and did that, but it at least helped. His tears continued to fall, though his breathing was slowing down, his head shakily laying down on Evan's shoulder. Evan softly ran a hand through his hair, letting Connor's body relax against him for a while.

After a few minutes of that, Connor's soft voice was heard, sounding very shaken up. “I...I'm sorry...Evan, I…-” he paused, “I just...want to protect y-you, and...I'm too weak myself…” Evan frowned and pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Connor...I'll be okay...you need to worry more about yourself...we can do something you like, we can talk about something you want to talk about...anything you want…”

Connor slowly nodded, nuzzling down into Evan's shoulder. “Just...one more day...tomorrow...I want...I want you to hold me for a little while longer…”

And that was one more day he actually could wait for.
