"It's just another night

And I'm staring at the moon"

I sat down on my chair and waited for the rest if my class to come in. Nobody sat next to me.

"Hello class" Our teacher Mrs Schmidt came in and greeted us friendly. She was the only teacher I liked and that liked me. I didn't know why, but she never put me under pressure to answer. That's why I'm more open in her class then in all the others together.

"Hello Mrs Schmidt", we said in unison. She smiled and I saw a dark haired boy walking into class. It was Calum, the boy who appeared next to me in the last lesson.

"I'm sorry I'm late, I was at the headmasters office", he apologised and slid into the seat next to me.

"No problem Calum. I see you have a seat. Wonderful. Then let us start"

"Hi Chrissy, I can call you that, or?" I nodded. Why did he just sat down next to me? There were other free seats. Why did he sat down next to me and not ... I don't know Jenny, the beautifulest girl at school? I looked over to Jenny. She looked into her pocket mirror and I could see at least five boys staring at her. Not Calum, he was looking at me. "You can call me Cal if you want" He smiled and I giggled.

"Hi Cal. What have you done at the headmasters?" I was so excited that I could talk to him that I just had to ask questions. I still couldn't really believe that I could talk with him!

"I'm new here, I just had to do some stupid stuff. Singing some papers, you know?" I nodded and we started to talk about random things.

"Christina, Calum, if you like to talk that much, why don't you talk with the class and share your opinion to Michelle's experiment?" I gulped and looked back to my fingers as always. I got hit by Calum's elbow but didn't talk.

"Why aren't you talking with her?", he asked and I shrugged. I wouldn't tell him. I told nobody, why should I tell him?

"Why don't YOU talk with her?", I asked back and he shrugged too.

"Christina? Calum? We are waiting!"

"I-I, I didn't listen. I'm sorry", Calum said and Michelle was forced to explain her experiment again.

I sat at home and saw that I had a new text. I didn't knew the number.

Hi, it's Calum here, Nick gave me your number, I hope that's okay, wanna come over? Calum xx

Nick was the only other person, apart from my family and Calum, that I could talk to.

I wondered why he wanted me over. With his looks he could get better girls. Especially braver girls.

No problem with that, I would come over but I don't know where you live :) Chrissy xx

He quickly send me his address but told me that he would get me from my house. I texted him my address and five minutes later he stand on my doorstep. My parents weren't at home so I quickly wrote an note for them that I'll be home until dusk.

"I'm going to show you something at my home" The dark haired boy said proud.

"Okay, do I have to be scared?"

"No", he laughed and led me to his house. It wasn't that far from mine. "Why are you at our school and why did you came here in the year? You are from Australia, aren't you?"

"Yes I am. I came here because my mum got a better job" I nodded and let the theme fall, he didn't seem comfortable with it. But I had to ask one last question.

"Do you miss Australia? And your friends back there?"

"Yeah, I really miss them. It was so hard for me to go because they were like my... everything you know? We used to hang out the hole day, 24/7. And now - it's gone" He seemed a bit depressed, that's why I shut my mouth and we stopped talking until we reached his house.

His house looked comfy. Red bricks and a dark roof. Next to the door was a sign that said : "Welcome at the Hood's. Calum, Mali and Joy are home here" So Calum lived with two girls under one roof, I felt a bit sorry for him. It was only later that I realised that his dad did not lived there. I didn't dare to ask Calum, so we went inside and he showed me around the house.

It was small but nice. There were three bedrooms, an open kitchen (I always wished for an open kitchen) which connected with the living room and only one bathroom. Calum told me that his room was the one under the roof. It was the biggest and the beautifulest room, even though they were not much in there. Just his bed, a closet and a bass.

"You play bass?"

"Oh yes, do you too?" I shook my head and told him that I played the piano. "I could show you a few chords", he offered and took the bass.

"Okay, but I don't think I'm good"

"Oh, you will learn from the best", he smiled and gave me the bass. It was heavier than I thought. "Wait. Here" He laid the strap around my shoulder and suddenly it became much more easier to carry the bass. "Come, sit on my lap" He pulled me back onto his bed and I landed on his crotch, softly, or at least I hoped so.

"Okay you put this hand here and with this one you are strumming the sides. Just like that. Perfect." I strummed the sides slightly but I did not hear that much. "Normally you plug it into a speaker, but it's okay like this. Wanna try the first chord?" I nodded. " It's an A chord" He placed my fingers softly onto the fretboard. "And now strum" I strummed the sites slightly. It didn't sound that good but Calum acted like I was super talented, which was totally sweet. We practiced some more chords and I got better with the time.

"You're a natural, Chrissy", he told me by the time we finished our little Bass session. "We could play together some time. You on the piano and me on the Bass" I nodded.

"I have to go now Cal, see you tomorrow, I promised my parents I'd be home until dusk"

"I'll walk you."

"You don't have to, it's not that far"

"But I want to" I smiled at his stubbornness and agreed.

He walked me home and hugged me goodbye. "See you tomorrow in school" I said and after he said his goodbye and went around the corner I quickly ran into our garden.

I laid down in the wet grass and stared at the moon. It somehow calmed me down and I let the questions run through my head. Some new questions and some I had asked me since I was small.

Why can't I talk to teachers or other strangers? Why can I talk to Calum? Why does he live without his dad?

I got a headache from the questions and after I while I fell asleep in the wet grass under the shine if the moon and the stars. The last thing I saw was a shooting star, brighter than any other I have ever seen before. And I wished for something, the thing I always wanted but never got.
