Evie

I remember walking through those halls on my first day of "high school" at St. Alberts high. Mom had just dropped me off at the front and had wished me the best of luck, while so enthusiastically saying "I'm sure all the boys will find you so cute!"

The dramatic eye roll and cherry red tomato complexion that was plastered on my face has yet to be beaten since that day. I mean if your mom embarrassed you in front of all the kids outside on the front lawn before your first day had even started, you'd feel the same way.

Luckily, I had multiple years of practice of embarrassing introductions, so I was used to it. They barely phased me anymore. I just learned to accept them, and keep moving forward until the awkwardness and embarrassment had passed.

As usual, I walked right to the principle's office and waited patiently for my timetable schedule. I watched in the office as kids strolled in wearing their navy blue and forest green uniforms. I then turned to the front desk and noticed a label with the name Ms. Louis written on it. After a few minutes of standing by the secretary desk, I cleared my throat to announce my presence.

"Excuse me, um, Ms. Louis?" my voice rang out. "Will principle Prickly be ready anytime soon? I really don't want to be late for my first class".

The young women, I'm guessing in her early twenties, looked up from her desk as she pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose. "He's in a meeting right now, but I could look up your first class and homeroom for you if you'd like", she said with a small smile. "What's your name?"

"Evangeline Winter. But call me Evie", I said smiling back.

Her fingers moved quickly as they tapped along the keyboard at her desk. "Ah yes here you are!" She beamed. "It looks like your first class is mathematics with Mr. Adams in room 216. If you'd like I could send the class schedule down so you don't have to miss the beginning of your first class?"

"That would be wonderful, thank you!" I smiled with relief.

Without further wait, I marched down the hall and headed straight up the stairs to level two hundred. Ms. Louis thankfully gave me directions so it was easy to locate my class, but I kept getting distracted by all of the students pushing around me to pass to get to their lockers before class. Looking down at the little posted note that Ms. Louis also gave me, I was able to find my locker right away.

After attempting a few tries of my lock, I huffed in frustration due to the stupid lock refusing to open.

No no no! This cannot be happening right now!

"Oh, so you're the new owner of that locker", a high pitched voice said from behind me. I slowly turned around to see a short brunette girl with slightly pimpled skin staring up at me with her fudge brown eyes.

"Yeah? Is there a problem with it or something..?" I asked.

"Yeah the stupid lock doesn't work at all", she explained coming over beside me. "The last kid who had that locker was always late to classes. Sucked to be him", she said crossing her arms while staring at the lock.

"Well I guess that's going to be me then from now on", I sighed heavily, "I'm Evie by the way".

"Like the Pokémon?", she smiled amusingly.

"No", I replied dragging out the "o" sound and rolling my eyes. "Evie is short for Evangeline".

"Oh", she said laughing, "cool. My name is Liv, short for Olivia". We shook hands and she turned her attention to the clock above our heads. "Tell you what, how about we just share lockers until you get this locker situation figured out".
