Chapter Six- The Buried
Duke stirs underneath the blankets; it won’t be long until he awakes. I take this moment to go and get some food for him, so when he does wake up he’ll have something to eat.
I return to see Duke sitting up; looking out the window. I had drawn the curtains to let some light into the room a few hours earlier. His skin isn’t blue anymore; it’s still very pale but much better.
He turns when I enter and looks at me, his green eyes clouded with sorrow. He opens his mouth to say something but then doesn’t, instead he drops his eyes.
I put the tray of food down in front of him, a warm bowl of soup and a drink of water. He stares at the food, as if he’s unsure what it is.
“Here, it’s called food, you pick it up like this and then lift it into your mouth,” I say, picking up the spoon and dripping it into the bowl, retrieving a spoonful of soup. “Open up.” I smirk, as the colour in Duke’s cheeks turn a little red and he bites onto the spoon bashfully.
I never would have guessed I would see such a cute face.
He takes the spoon from my hand as a small smile reaches his lips, “It’s good.” He murmurs, taking another spoonful.
I step off his bed and walk towards the window. I frown at the brightness streaming through the window, it’s around 4pm and it’s so bright. All I want to do is avoid the sun. Zaebos flies by Duke’s window and I watch him fly around in the sky until I grow sick of the sun and turn back around to Duke.
He’s almost finished his soup and he looks a lot more revived. After I got home last night I took him straight to this room and heated up his body with fire. I’ve been awake all night making sure the ice leaves his bloodstream.
“The bathroom is behind you and the wardrobe is the door opposite it. Wear something nice,” I instruct, picking up the tray with an empty bowl, “My room is two rooms down from yours, come to it when you’re ready. There’s somewhere you’ll want to go.”
-Duke’s Point of View-
A towel hangs loosely around my waist; the hot shower and soup have made me feel a lot better physically but my heart aches terribly for my parents. If my mind isn’t constantly thinking of something else then the image of them with the bullets planted in their heads reappears in my mind. I just can’t believe they’re really gone. I wish I had spent more time with them, I should have told them I loved them more; I should have treasured them while I had the chance.
I shake my thoughts away; I’ve been given the chance to make things right by joining with Eva. If I can stop Henry from winning then that is the best thing I can do for my parents.
Walking out of the bathroom, I look at the door in front of me. The wardrobe? I open the door, whistling with awe.
The wardrobe is large, only a small portion of clothes are hung up and there’s some shoes on the floor. They obviously aren’t my clothes but they are the type of clothes I wear. My eyes float around the wardrobe as I step into it.
I pick out a formal outfit as Eva suggested and get changed into it, grateful for it’s warmth. I leave the wardrobe and then exit my new room. Once again I find myself being impressed as I see the many rooms built around a large parlour type room in the middle. After my body froze back at Henry’s headquarters I had lost consciousness so I have no idea where I actually am, this is the most I’ve ever seen of this place.
I lean over the edge of the railing, looking down at the area bellow. A boy with black hair is sitting down with his legs pulled up under him, reading a book.
