Chapter Fifteen
The Morthimer Motto
We arrive at the mansion in less than an hour after robbing the bank and we head straight to Valentine’s study. I open the door to find both William and Adrian kneeling before Valentine with their wrists handcuffed. I step around in front of them to see they’re both blindfolded. Jett lies over a seat, his legs hanging off the ledge impolitely. Darcy stands next to him, Blade stands to the side of the room.
“Who just entered?” William asks, his voice strong but I notice the fear. I can’t help but enjoy his weakness at this moment.
I decide to play with him a little and I bend down next to him, leaning my lips in close to his ear. “Me.” I whisper, he flinches and almost falls down. I stand up, smirking.
“Leave them alone Eva, they’re our guests.” Valentine scolds.
“Then why are they handcuffed?” I retort, folding my arms. The door opens again and Amara enters, standing next to Blade. William doesn’t ask who enters this time.
“They said they’d rather be handcuffed and blindfolded then sit on my seats.” Valentine explains with a sigh. By the sound of his voice I guess the interrogation isn’t fairing well.
I shrug, slapping down the loot I received from the bank on Valentine’s desk, loud enough for our two hostages to jump with surprise. “That’s the $1,000,000 stolen from the Tene by sweet William and $5,000,000 from Henry’s bank.” I say in a mocking voice, “…sweet William.” I repeat before thrusting my foot into his side.
He gasps from the sudden pain and falls face first on the floor. I hear Jett laugh loudly and next to him, Adrian stiffens. I grab William’s collar tightly and bring him back up, taking off his blindfold so I can speak to his face. “How are the parents Will? How is my big sister Lavender? Or the little brother who I have never seen?”
William grimaces as my voice turns into a shout; my hatred for my family is controlling my emotions. “Do you know that little black crow you shot instead of me? His name is Zaebos and you killed him!” I continue to shout.
I feel arms wrap around my waist, pulling me away from William who is shaking. I struggle in Duke’s arms, wanting to hurt William so much more. I’ve already started my rant and I want to finish it.
“Duke, take Eva out of the room, please.” Valentine commands softly, not raising his voice.
“Wow Eva, control your emotions.” Blade says and I stop struggling to glare at him.
I stop towards the door, “Shut up Blade.” I hiss, once Valentine is done interrogating William I’ll beat him up.
“Wait.” William says, we all stop and look at him. “Mother and Father stress with work from Roht, he hardly gives them time to do anything. I haven’t seen them in weeks. I haven’t seen Lavender in months, she just got up and left one day, probably with her boyfriend. As for our little brother, his name is Oliver and he is in a boarding school with mortals. I haven’t seen him in almost a year.”
Silence follows in the room. I turn away from William and Duke’s hand finds mine and he squeezes gently on it.
“I’m sorry about how things turned out Eva, but we’re enemies.” William whispers quietly. This feels like it’s turning into some soap opera, but I feel a twinge of sadness from the tone of William’s voice and my anger fades. I’d rather not have this many people in the room when we start having a family quarrel but it can’t be helped. At least this way, hopefully I can get something out of him.
I let go of Duke’s hand and walk back over to him, kneeling down in front of him again. I look at his face, he’s a full grown man now but I can still see the resemblance to the child that I knew. “We don’t have to be enemies. You said you haven’t seen anyone for weeks or more? I don’t buy that for a second,” Memories of my family’s pride a closeness flood into my mind, I remember our family’s motto, “In the Morthimer family,”
