Epilogue
Two Years Later
I stand at the gates of Willow Daytime. Duke steps out of the limo behind me along with Darcy and Jett. We are all dressed in formal attire and we all stare up at the school before us. We were here this morning to set up, Darla planned the party but we offered to set up the place. The party started an hour ago but we all decided to be fashionably late.
Duke entwines his fingers in mine, smiling gently at me and we walk hand-in-hand down the familiar halls to the hall. Excitement bubbles inside me as we open the doors to the hall.
The hall looks just like it did over 5 years ago, the same bad music except newer versions, the same people but older.
We enter the hall and someone shouts; “Look, Eva, Jett, Duke and Darcy have arrived!” Everyone cheers for us and we shift shyly in our spots.
All of us still work for Valentine but Calista and Lloyd live in the mansion with Blade, Amara and Hugo. Calista and Lloyd got married last year and Lloyd turned Calista on their wedding night. Now she’s pregnant with their first child.
The mansion is too big for Calista and Lloyd to live in alone so since Blade is Calista’s cousin she offered for them to live their too. Hugo naturally lives with his sister but boards at Willow Daytime with his best friend, Oliver.
Ebony, Seth, Corbin and Cain dispersed to their own hidden places but we see them every get-together.
My parents live at their mansion with Lavender. My parents are retired and Lavender likes to play music for the under-privileged, so she travels a lot.
William works for Valentine and lives in a penthouse in Potent.
The crowd of people who came to greet us begin to disperse and a familiar face appears before us. Darla stands there with her mortal husband she had told us about. She tells us all about him and he stands there shyly before us. Darla lives in his mortal country will all the unpowered people but always visits her powered friends.
When we finally finish greeting everyone Duke offers to dance with me and I smirk, accepting his offer. We dance around the room and I Agatha by the food table. She’s gained a bit of wait since high school but she still looks beautiful. She holds the hand of another girl and they suddenly kiss. With all the guys Agatha dated I never expected her to go lesbian but the look of pure happiness on her face as she smiles at her partner shows how much better she feels.
Duke and I run into Darcy and Jett and we all stop dancing. Jett smiles mischievously at us, “I think it’s about time we made this party awesome.”
We all smile in return and set off the traps we had set earlier today. The music is cut off and metal music plays, slime falls from the ceiling followed by confetti and sparkles and everyone is covered in the stuff, including Duke, Jett, Darcy and I.
We all laugh loudly, everyone turns to us, it’s obvious we did it but they see we too are covered in goo. “You should never have trusted us with the set up Darla!” Duke cries, lifting his drink to her and taking a big sip of it.
Everyone laughs and instead enjoys the mess. I smile at Darcy next to me, we can still be mischievous but now it’s accepted. We’ll be a pain in the ass but no one hates us anymore.
“Hey what’s that falling from the ceiling?” Jett calls and points at the ceiling.
Darcy and I look up, “It’s two black balloons, Jett!” Duke replies and they both catch a balloon each.
They look at each other and then at Darcy and I, dropping to one knee at the same time and pulling a pin out to pop the balloon. The balloon pops and a fire burns beautifully in their hands until it disappears to reveal a ring. The ring is pitch black but with a glittery line through it, like the colour of my ancestor power.
I steal a glance at Jett to see he too has a ring on his palm. I look back at Duke with my mouth open with disbelief, “Eva, will you be my partner in crime? My villainous wife?” He asks sweetly, smiling with his cute dimples.
My heart beats repeatedly and tears tickle my eyes, if there is a way to propose to me, it is that way. “If you can keep up.” I laugh and his smile broadens.
He picks up the ring and slips it onto my finger, lifting me up and kissing me passionately on the lips. I kiss him back happily.
We break free and I look at Darcy to see her gold ring with tiny white dove rings and a diamond. We smile happily at each other, Darcy is crying with happiness. Jett turns to Duke, “Did you actually use that line I told you to use?” Jett asks.
Duke laughs and nods, “It worked.”
Jett slaps his face, “Dammit, I got scared and just say willyoumarryme?”
Darcy giggles and kisses Jett again, “It was so cute!” He smiles triumphantly and I shake my head with a smile.
“It’s on video; I’m broadcasting this to the world!” Darla calls and we all spin around to see her holding her phone with a camera, “Smile to the camera!”
I raise my eyebrow at Duke and we both reply by putting our middle fingers up at the camera. Darcy and Jett doing the same, then we cover ourselves in smoke and teleport out of the party.
Parties have never really been my thing anyway.
