Chapter One

Gerard stares at himself in the mirror, putting a strand of his red hair back behind his ear, examining his chosen outfit he's chosen to wear for the exciting night.

"Gerard come on! The neighbors are going to be here any minute!" Gerard hears Bryan, his adoptive father call making Gerard quickly make his way down the steps of the stairs, thinking of what they may be like.

Gerard helps Donna, his adoptive mother finish setting the table before they hear a ring at the front door, making Gerard smile excitedly as they're finally here.

Gerard's a social butterfly, he loves meeting new people, making new friends, and is more than excited to meet the new neighbors moving in next door.

"Jenna! Bert! I'm so glad you could come!" Gerard hears Donna exclaim, greeting the neighbors in the living room, Gerard trying to hurry and finish so he can go greet them.

"Oh my, what a lovely home you have!" He hears a woman's sweet voice compliment in the living room as Gerard finally finishes up the dinner table, walking out.

She sees a woman with soft brown hair, pretty green eyes, stood next to a teen taller than Gerard himself staring right back at him, next to the woman who are still stood in-front of the door.

Examining him, Gerard takes note of the compeltely black clothing, his long unwashed dark black hair.

"Hi, I'm Gerard!" Gerard smiles walking over, tucking some of his red hair back behind his ear as he gets a little nervous, but overall extremely excited to meet them.

"Nice to meet you sweetheart, I'm Jenna and this is Bert" Jenna smiles rubbing the teen 'Bert's' back for him to greet Gerard back.

Gerard looks at Bert, expecting him to say something, hoping so. Though he's badly dressed, he's cute, just quiet.

Bert remains quiet, making his mother chuckle at him, "Sorry, he's not much of a people person"

"That's okay, I get it" Gerard smiles and as Donna invited them to sit, Gerard goes back to the dining room to make sure he set eveything set up right.

He hums to himself as he checks everything before eveyone takes their seats at the dinner table, Gerard sat across from Bert, next to Donna.

Gerard sips the pepsi in his glass, very rarely allowed to have soda as he watches the long haired boy across from him.

His cheek laid on his hand, elbow on the table, poking his food with a fork, seeming uncomfortable with being here, around everyone.

"You're really awkward, ya'know that?" Gerard says as he watches him, making Bert look up at him.

"You're really outgoing, ya'know that?" The boy chuckles, finally speaking despite being here for almost 15 minutes now.

Gerard can't help but crack a smile at his sarcastic respons, "Touchè"

"Gerard'll actually be leaving the private Christian school to public school this week, as it's closing" Donna says as she takes a bite.

"So you're both going to be new to the school, I hope you guys become friends" Jenna smiles sweetly.

Jenna, Donna and Bryan all continue to talk with one another throughout dinner, Gerard listening to their conversations.

"We just moved from Utah, an extremely long drive, but it was definitely worth it" Jenna says as they talk about their move.

"What made you guys decide to move all the way to the other side of the map?" Bryan asks curiously.

"Well we've been considering moving for a while, and Bert's band has taken off, and it happens Jersey is the easiest location" Jenna says.

"You're in a band?" Gerard smiles looking at Bert, impressed with him, "What do you play?"

"Singer, actually" Bert chuckles, shocking Gerard further. His voice his very light but has a rasp that gives him tingles, he can only imagine how amazing he must sound while singing.

"I'm so glad you guys could make it over tonight, I know you guys must still be so busy unpacking" Donna says.

"Let me know if you guys need any help settling in, I'm always around" Gerard offers sweetly.

"Oh thank you sweetheart" Jenna smiles, thankful that Gerard would be willing to help if they needed anything, depsite just meeting.

They finish dinner but all talk for a bit longer before the time gets late, meaning the end of the night.

"Tonight was a lot of fun, I hope we can do this again some time" Jenna smiles hugging Donna, thanking both her and Bryan.

"Have a nice night you guy!" Gerard smiles at them both as Bert helps his mother slide on her coat considering how cold it is out.

"You too hun" Jenna smiles hugging Gerard, seeming to be just as outgoing and loving as Gerard.

The two of them leave, leaving Gerard with a smile on his face as he goes upstairs to get ready for bed and rest.
