I woke up extremely early to get ready for school. There wasn't any point in waking up late unless I don't mind going to school beaten up.

I quietly made my way to the bathroom before brushing my teeth and stripping out of my pajamas to have a shower. I turned the hot water on only to be greeted with icy cold water. I instantly knew that my uncle had turned the hot water off.

This was either a punished or he couldn't afford it.

It's kind of hard to tell.

I quickly showered in the icy cold water before wrapping a towel around myself. Once in my room I moisturised my skin before fishing out my uniform and putting it on. I tied my hair up in a rough ponytail before grabbing my backpack. I made my way downstairs and out the back door which led to the garden.

I usually left my credit card in a small purse which I would hide in my garden shed. I know you are probably wondering why I do this and that is because my uncle would spend my money on drinks and cigarettes if I don't hide my card.

My parents left some money for my uncle to look after the both of us. Before my uncle got worse he got me a credit card and put some money in it. When he started to get worse he would hit me and ask me over and over again for my card.

I would always lie that I lost it which he never believed. He would eventually get bored of hitting me and would leave the house or go to his room for hours giving me enough time to change my hiding place for the card.

I grabbed my card before rushing back inside to put my coat on. I gently opened the front door and stepped outside slowly. I closed the door gently behind me before holding onto my bag tightly.

I started to walk down the road when I heard footsteps behind me. I looked back to see nothing so I turned around and continued walking. Once  I got to school I went into my form class and got out my note pad out so I can make clearer notes as I wait for registration.

My phone vibrated and I looked at it to see a message from David.

I saw you walking into school. I feel kind of nervous but is it okay if we can meet now that no one is here.

I couldn't help but let out a loud laugh. Good thing no one was here to hear me sound so crazy!

Okay. I am going to the library. See you in a few minutes :)

I started to regret sending a smiley face. I don't even know this guy so I shouldn't get comfortable.

I quickly rushed into ladies and looked at myself in the mirror. I inspected myself carefully before leaving when satisfied with the way I look. I ran down the stairs and rushed through the corridor before slowing down when getting closer to the library door.

I felt like I wasn't breathing.

I pushed the door slowly and stepped inside to see the first few tables empty. I walked past more empty tables and that is when I saw him.

David.

He sat on a circle table with his notes spread out. He looked very concentrated in writing something as I approached his table.

"Hi," I said awkwardly causing David to look up at me. He gave me a polite smile before offering me a seat which I gladly took.

"April right?" He asked and I nodded. He pulled out a blue note book and opened it showing me a maths problem he had worked out.

"It is very nice to meet you April. I know you probably don't want to hear about maths but is it okay if I show you this algebra problem."

I hated maths and still hadn't passed it the first time round so I was very shocked that David had picked it up as an Alevel.

How was he surviving?

I knew that there wasn't any point in him explaining the equation to me because I wouldn't understand it.

Nevertheless I gave him a smile.

"Yes sure. Show me!"

He leaned towards me as he explained the equation making me remember the good 3 minutes I had alone in my form room. If I had stayed upstairs I would be refining my notes which is boring but is far better than being here and listening to this...I was slowly loosing it.

"What is the answer April?"

"3b," I guessed looking straight at David as a small smile tugged on his lips.

"The answer is an expression."

"That's weird. I thought expressions were only for people to show not to be used in maths," I said with fake seriousness.

David frowned at me making me hold my laugh. "Wait do you actually believe that?"

"No. I am joking," I laughed and he relaxed for a bit before laughing too.

"Good. For a minute I thought you were being serious. Expressions are definitely used in maths."

I looked at the time on my phone to see that there is was a few minutes left till the bell goes off.

"Umm the bell is going to go off soon," I said as I stood up. David nodded before handing me a work sheet.

"I want you to do this for me. I want to get you into maths." I looked at the sheet as I felt dread.

"I never passed it," I said quietly. David nodded as he gave my hand a small pat.

"That's why I want to help you."

I frowned a bit at his statement.

"You knew that I didn't pass maths?"

"Yes."

"How?"

"Because I was-"

The bell rang loudly causing me to grab my bag and phone.

"I will see you..."

"Tomorrow morning at this time," David finished my sentence with a smile before I turned to run back to form.
