Chapter 21: Letter

Lexi POV

I sighed. I sighed again heavily. I closed my eyes and tried to get to sleep. Unconiously, I moved my arms to what I knew what an empty bed. I sat up on the bed and looked at the empty spot next to me. It’s been like this for the last two weeks. Since our dads had informed us that there was a mole in our pack, Jay has been working nonstop trying to find out who it is. He is barely sleeping and eating at it is. I saw my phone blinking as I picked it up and swiped my notification bar down. Nothing important. Just messages and stuff. I got up from the large bed and walked down the stairs into the kitchen. It was the early hours of the morning, so no one was up, obviously. I checked the fridge numerous times hoping that items would magical appear, but no, that didn’t happen. I decided to have cookies and milk. As I lazily picked up my fifth cookie and gulped down some milk, I heard a slam in Jay’s office. Maybe it was a smash. Deciding to go check it out because that it is how I am, opened the door, closed it and took a step forward. Jay sat in his chair with his head bowed in his hands. His fingers were tightened around his hair, clearly stressed. I walked towards him until I was in his vision. I noticed the broken glass at his feet. I placed a hand on his shoulder and watched as he jerked up. He had dark circles underneath his eyes and had stubble on chin.

“I’m fine, kitten. Just trying to figure out who the hell is doing this” he said as he started pacing back and forth, trying to relax his muscles. I grasped his hand when he came pacing towards me. I grabbed the other one. I then placed my palm on his cheek. I watched as he leaned towards my palm as I brought my other arm around his waist and brought him into a hug. We stayed in hug position for a couple of minutes and as he let go, I watch as the some of the colour returned back into his eyes. He kissed the top of forehead and walked back to his chair. I turned around and watched him type furiously fast. I eyed the leather couch in the corner and went and sat down on it. Tapping my fingernails together and eyeing Jay at the same time hoping to get his attention. He looked at me a couple of times but then looked down and went back to his work. It was the fifth time he had looked up he asked

“Yes kitten?” he said amusingly as he tapped a pen to his lip.

“What are you doing?” I asked as I got off the couch and walked over to Jay. I looked over his shoulder and looked at the screen and then back at him.

“Algebraic equations?” I said unamused “ Seriously? For the last two weeks I thought you were working on who the hell the mole is, not god dam algebraic equations. What are you 17?”

“If you would let me explain, before you throw a tantrum, I have been working on trying to find out who the hell the mole is. Rose’s maths teacher just messages me telling me she’s failing algebra, so me, being her brother wanted to help. So he sent me the worksheet for her to complete before Friday.”

“You are a good big brother, baby. I proud off you for helping your sister. So what information do you have so far?” I asked sitting on his lap and leaning back on his chest. Opening a new tab on his laptop, he loaded all the information he had about the mole.

I stopped reading the list after my eyes hit Aiden’s name. I turned to face Jay and asked him why Aiden, Aaron and Cassie name were on the list, but he placed his index finger on my lip

“Before you say anything, they are on the list because they don’t have an alibi for the night of your ceremony”

“What the hell happened on the night on of my ceremony?”

“We received a note from someone, saying to watch out or something bad will happen. We first thought it was Logan or Freddie, but as we both found out it wasn’t them. At least not directly. Then we thought it was Tyler and his pack of hunters, but that boy likes my sister too much to ever hurt her or this pack. There are like three pages worth of suspects excluding the mothers and children. I was going to say something, but a knock stopped me.

“Come in”

A young boy no older than 7, came in holding in a package. It almost covered his face. Jay picked me up and placed my on the chair. He walked towards the boy and picked the package from his arm. He placed it on the table and then shook his hand.

“Who gave this to you and do you know what it is?” Jay asked as he crouched down to the boy’s level. He scuffed the boy’s honey hair.

“A man came up to me while I was walking home from school and told me to give to it you immediately. He also said that you have 24 hours” With that the boy left the room. I got up from the chair and walked towards the present. Jay united the ribbon and lifted the box. Inside laid a locket. Jay picked it up and I saw a note underneath it. I watched as Jay opened the locket and closed his eyes. I took a peak of the locket and gasped. Inside was a clipping of hair. Behind the hair was picture of a woman.

“Who’s hair is it?” I asked unsurely

“My sister’s” he said sighing. This just got bad to worse. “What’s in the envelope?”

I grasped the white envelope in my hands and lifted the flap. I took the white paper out and felt all the colour drain from my body. I handed the note to Jay who dropped it instantly like it was on fire and threw a photograph at the wall. He then proceed to punch the wall repeatedly. I dropped down on my knee and picked up the note.

‘I have your sister and her mate. If you want her back. You will do the following. You will receive another note tomorrow morning. If you do not comply to the instructions, watch out or I’ll take your mate away from you too’
