Chapter 33

Nec’s POV

Napaiwas ako ng tingin kay Panda. Bakit ganito ba ‘tong Jayson na ‘to?

Buset! Napahiya pa tuloy. Aish.

Ivy’s POV

“Sino siya?” tanong sakin ni kuya Tyrone.

“Best friend ko,” I answered plainly. “Well, sort of. Basta, childhood friend.”

“Sobrang . . . close kayo?”

Umiling ako with a smile, “Nope. I mean, yes, we were. WERE na. Past na ok?”

“Why? What happened?”

“I think I should blame puberty. When we reached that level, nagka-ilangan na kame. Lalo na when I met 1week.”

Nagnod lang siya, stood up, then said goodbye.

“Uuwi ka na?” I asked.

“Ayaw mo ba?”

“But.. today’s my.. last day here,” I said.

He sighed. “I know. Mapapagalitan na kasi ako. Don’t worry, I will find you,” he smiled.

Nagsmile nalang din ako, “Sige.”

Hinatid ko siya hanggang sa may gate then we bade our goodbyes.

“Sino ‘yun?” asked Jhonel.

I said down on my spot kanina.

“Selos ka?” tanong ni Timang.

“Naks naman! Nagkakaselosan na!” sabi rin ni Necrisel.

“Yie! Shipper niyo na ko!” sabi naman ni Kate.

Inirapan ko lang silang tatlo.

“Si kuya Tyrone—”

Hindi ko natuloy yung sasabihin ko kasi nagsalita si Mikay, “Suitor niya.”

“Suitor?!” naibuga ni Jhonel yung iniinom niyang tubig . . .

Kay . . . Rence.

I went ‘pfft’ from preventing myself to laugh. Halata namang nagalit si Rence, annoyance was obviously written on his face.

“Sorry, pare,” apologized Jhonel. “I got shocked.”

Inabutan ni Mikay ng towel si Rence, “Ok lang.”

“Ok ka lang Rence? Hahahaha!” Nang-aasar na sabi ni Timang.

“Sana na-video man lang natin!” sabi naman ni Nec.

“Epic,” Faye commented.

“Ang babait niyo. Salamat,” Sarcastic na wika ni Rence.

“Eh kasi daebak naman talaga eh!” Kate

“Oo nga! Imba!” sabi ko ulit.

Biglang natahimik si Jhonel nung nagsalita ako. He stared at me intently while I looked away.

“Look at me, Ivy,” he demanded.

But I was too stubborn to follow.

“That guy is your suitor?” he asked again.

Bakit ganon natahimik bigla yung makukulit kong kaibigan?! Ang unfair naman!

“Don’t make me ask agan,” he warned. “Didn’t we make a promise?” he added.

“We? Kayo?” tanong ni Mikay.

“I’m sorry. I meant, she and her mom,” he answered a matter-of-factly.

“Wow, intense,” sabi ni Kate. “Parang nanonood tayo ng drama.”

“Alam niyo, kayong dalawa,” pounder at last said, “you better go somewhere private. Somewhere na wala tong mga chismosa around.”

I looked at Jhonel, only to find out he was still staring at me. His eyes asked me if we could do what pounder suggested. Funny, after all these years, we still have that eye contact running. We could still communicate through our eyes.

I stood and went out. I knew he was following me, though.

Napunta kame sa may park. It was so dark that the stars shine so bright. I never felt this overwhelmed.

I sat on one of the benches, he sat beside me. We were quiet for what felt like ages. He suddenly broke the ice when he asked, “So . . . are you still not going to answer?”

I was still looking at the stars when I answered, “Uhm, yes, he is.”

“Bakit . . .” he trailed off. I was waiting for him to continue speaking but to no avail.

I looked at him. “Bakit ano?”

He shrugged. “Forget it.” Then looked away.

I know what he was tryin’ to say. I was just too afraid to open up that topic. Truth be told, I never want to open up that topic again.

“About our . . .” I stopped amidst of my sentence. I didn’t know the right word to fill my sentence. I didn’t know how to say it.

“Promise?” he finished as he smiled bitterly. “Guess that’s not going to come true anymore.” He looked at me again, “Is it?”

I sighed. I was lost for words. For a moment, I didn’t know what to react. Then I came back to my senses and firmly answered, “Yup, it isn’t going to come true anymore. Now, that I found someone who’ll actually care.”

Apparently, Jhonel and I have a dark past. We were childhood friends, then we stopped interacting just last year. Everyone thinks we just stopped being ‘close’ when we reached adolescence, though. Because that’s what I told them. I didn’t want them to know that I anticipated a relationship from someone who’ll just cheat on me.

Yup, he cheated on me. He played with me like I was some kind of a Barbie doll. Well, real men don’t play with Barbie dolls.

It was just last year when I found out that he was already in a relationship with someone else, and that’s the time when I busied myself to Korean male stars. But everytime I see him, the pain’s still there. Darn, it still stings.

“I’m sorry,” was all he managed to say.

I smiled at him. “I’m alright, Jhonel. Don’t worry. At least I found out your dirty little secret before we entered a relationship. That’s a good thing, isn’t it?”

He looked at me with worry on his face, “Wala na ba talaga?”

Is he really a jerk? After what he did to me, itatanong niya if wala na talaga? He’s slowly getting into my nerves.

I laughed bitterly. “Why don’t you ask yourself if ‘wala na talaga?’ Ano ba tingin mo sa’kin tanga-tanga to still accept you after what you’ve done? You cheated on me nung wala pa tayo, what more if tayo na? Magagawa’t magagawa mo ‘yun, bastard.”

I didn’t want to pick on him but he pushed me to my limit. I didn’t expect him to ask that, really. We fell in silence for a moment. No one had the courage to speak again, and I was slowly losing my patience. That’s when I decided to leave but he set the ball rolling.

“I understand if you’re still mad at me,” he began. “But I swear, I would win your heart back. I definitely will.”

I stood, “You wish.”

Then I left.
