Time starts moving on quickly after Finn and Rey announce that they're going to be parents. Everyone is both surprised and excited about the news. They move into an apartment next to Poe and Lyra's; Both of are three bedrooms and both are very nice (and affordable).
Really, just about everyone in the Resistance is starting to look at apartments and houses. Living in a hotel is getting old... really old. Especially when your neighbors have a baby that enjoys screaming at all hours of the night.
Some people are waiting until the base is done. They don't see a point in moving into a house on Naboo when the base is on another planet. (The planet is very close.).
Oh, and the base is almost done being built.
It's good, because I can tell the people of Naboo are really starting to get annoyed with us. Which is understandable, I mean, we're literally taking up a whole entire hotel. And, ever since we got here, there's been an attack and a murder and a kidnapping. Two kidnappings.
I can see why they dislike us.
"Whatcha thinking about?" Caden asks.
"How the people of Naboo dislike us." I say. Caden nods. "Anyway, tomorrow is our anniversary. We've been dating for two years. What should we do?"
Caden thinks for a couple of seconds. "We get muffins at the book store then go stare at the sky." He says. I smile.
"Aww," I say. "Just like our first date. It sounds amazing."
Caden smiles. "I'll see you tomorrow."
~
Tomorrow comes, and I meet Caden at the book store as planned.
He seems nervous. Which makes me nervous. I don't say anything, though. Caden is always a little bit nervous. "You look pretty." He says and I smile. "I mean... you always look pretty. You just look more pretty today— wait, that sounds mean—"
"Caden, you dork." I say. "I know what you mean. And you look nice, too."
He sighs. "Okay. Okay, um... should we go inside?"
"Yes, of course."
~
Our date goes perfectly. It's almost exactly like our first date, only at a different book store and it's less awkward.
We look at the sky afterwards. Which yeah, is strange. We see the sky everyday but when you really, really look at it, it's just... so amazing.
"That cloud looks like Shrek."
"It does," I say. "It's beautiful."
"It is," Caden says and turns to me. "But it's not as beautiful as you."
I blush.
"That was a terrible compliment," Caden says. "I just compared you to Shrek."
"That's the best compliment I've ever received," I say. "Shrek is gorgeous."
"Will you marry me?" He asks suddenly. It's so fast, I'm not even sure if I heard him correctly.
"What?!"
"I said... will you marry me?"
I sit up. "Again, what?!"
"I don't know!" Caden says. "I was going to propose to you sometime today but the Shrek cloud threw me off and I didn't know how to change the subject and so I just asked!"
I stare at him in shock for a couple of seconds. Actually, minutes. Maybe even hours.
Then I laugh.
He looks confused and nervous and embarrassed and also a little bit like he wants to cry. Because he's Caden and he always cries. "What?!" He asks, panicked.
"This is the best proposal ever!"
He seems to calm a little. "Wait— what? Is that a yes? You aren't upset?"
"Of course not!"
"Of course not... you aren't mad at me? Or you don't want to marry me?"
"I'm not mad." I say, smiling. "And yes, I'll marry you. I love you!"
"So... we're engaged?"
"I think so."
"Here's a ring."
"It's gorgeous." I say. "Almost as gorgeous as Shrek."
He smiles. "I love you."
"I love you, too."
~
"You're engaged?!"
The first thing we hear when we see our friends. My eyes widen slightly and Caden is clearly surprised. "How did you know?" He asks.
"Uh," Jessika says as if the answer is obvious. "Rose is wearing a ring."
"Oh my gosh!" Rey says. "My best friend is getting married!"
"Okay— wait." Lyra says and turns to Caden. "First things first, why didn't you tell us you were going to propose?!"
"Yeah," Poe says. "Finn told us when he was going to propose to Rey!"
"I did not!" Finn says. "You idiots walked in and saw the ring!"
"It just sorta happened," Caden says and rolls his eyes. "I mean, I wanted to propose to her today, but I didn't know for sure if I was going to. Then we saw a cloud that looked like Shrek and I asked."
"...Because of a cloud," Ben says. "That looked like Shrek."
"You weren't there," Rose says. "It was beautiful."
"I always thought Shrek was beautiful," Rey says. "Anyway, guys, congratulations."
"Oh my gosh," Lyra says. "You guys are engaged, and Finn and Rey are going to be parents. We're growing up!"
"But," Poe says. "I don't wanna grow up."
"You do realize that you're married and you have a kid, right?" Ben asks.
"Does anyone else know you're engaged?" Jessika asks.
"No, actually." I say. "Should we tell them?"
"Sure," Caden says.
~
I never realized that everyone I know is a freaking detective.
"Congratulations!" Leia says, literally the second we see them.
At first I'm confused because she just randomly yelled congratulations. Congratulations? Why congratulations? Because we've been dating for two years? Is she even talking to us?
They must've noticed our confusion, because Han replies simply, "You're engaged!"
"How did you know?!" Caden exclaims.
"It's your two year anniversary," Luke replies. "It isn't uncommon for people to get engaged on anniversaries and you guys seem happy, therefore, you're engaged. Congratulations."
"Uh, thank you?"
Leia smiles. "It feels like yesterday you were that sweet little girl that's obsessed with Ewoks. Now you're grown, and you're about to get married. Again, congratulations."
I smile. I really can't believe I'm going to get married.
