CHAPTER 19
"I've gave you everything, Charlotte!
My mom's voice echoed in every corner of this house. I get it that she was mad at me since I left home without her permission, but I actually don't know what to feel. . .
"I'm sorry, mommy." My voice was so small.
I heard my mom's deepest sighed.
"What's your apartment's address?" mahinahon na tanong ni Mommy.
"Address, Charlotte. I wanted to know your apartment. Hintayin mo ako sa labas, we are going to get your things from your apartment."
Doon na ako nagulat. This could be the last thing that I want, I don't want her to get my address. My apartment serves as my safe space for a few months and even though she’s my mother... I don't want her physical self to go there.
The least she could do is to respect my place… to respect my boundaries.
"And why not?"
"Tell me, Charlotte... May hindi ba ako kayang ibigay sa'yo?" Her voice seems so different. "I provided you all the things that you need; financial, luxury clothes, I even enrolled you to one of the most popular University here in Manila. What else could you ask for? Nagrerebelde ka ba sa akin?"
Mabilis ako na umiling. "N-no, mommy. Hindi ako nagrerebelde." Huminga ako nang malalim.
"Stupid! Then what do you think you are doing right now? Bubukod ka? For what?"
"I.. I wanted to be independent," I uttered.
She let out a sarcastic laugh. She shifted her weight to the other side before she shook her head in disbelief.
"And do you think you can? Look at me," mariin niyang sabi. "That's what I wanted to do when I was your age, and what did I get? Your father impregnated me... Ikaw ang bunga."
Tumingin ako sa kanya. I already knew from the beginning that they had me when they were still in college. My Dad continued his study while my Mom had to stop for one year, pero sa dulo ay naka graduate din si Mommy.
"And look at us now, we're now broken up. In short, it didn't work. Kaya 'yung kagustuhan mong maging independent, I will tell you now... Hind mo kaya, Charlotte."
