Talk about it

I don't really like to talk about it.

My life story is hidden in between the lines.

Changes and obstacles and hardships are written as poetry, left for your interpretation.

I don't like to talk about my mistakes and the feelings that caught me by surprise.

People hear but don't listen, judgement clear in their eyes.

My truth has been hidden and disguised.

I don't like talking about it because I need you to do more than just listen.

I'm often misunderstood and my thoughts are misinterpreted.

My words get twisted into a story that I haven't written.

I don't like talking about it,

You don't either.

We're afraid,

Afraid of what we feel.

Afraid of the emotions that seem out of place.

Conversations about nothing distracting us from the something.

We simply don't want to talk about it.

So I don't speak.

I listen to the words you choose carefully, and write about what I wish you said.

You listen to the words I choose carefully, and spend time looking for something out of my nothing.

We choose not to talk about it because we are afraid of what might be said,

Afraid of what happens when we lay our hearts on the table.

We broke down a wall only to find another.

All because we don't want to talk about it.

It's easy to write a few words that sound nice when put together,

But writing your heart down on a sheet of paper and giving it to someone else is so much harder.

So we won't talk about it,

We'll just spend our time silently trying to figure out one another,

Because we understand just how hard talking about it is for each other.
