"Welcome to my humble abode." Daniella said opening the door to her apartment.
"Wow, I-it's lovely." Arina said sweetly, hands cupped behind her, fingers wound in a tangled mess of nerves.
Daniella laughed, "Ha, yeah thanks, but you don't have to say that. It's really not." She said gesturing around the small boxy room, a cheap single bed in the corner, a desk, a door that lead to the bathroom which was also rather small and boxy and a little kitchenette in the other corner. Dirty clothes and homework littered the floor, which Daniella in a quick embaressed shuffle, hurried to clean up.
"I-I don't have visitors often, sorry!"
Arina's eyes wandered around the room in a blissful daze Daniella couldn't quite understand, finally they landed back on Daniella, she giggled and gave a quaint smile. "No, it's fine. Really. And I do mean it, it's lovely."
Daniella gave her a strange look, shrugging she replied. "Suit yourself, but I bet I'd trade it for your place in an instant." She laughed at her own joke, expecting Arina to as well but instead she went silent, stared down at her feet, and dawned a troubled expression.
Daniella seized up, scared she'd offended her she walked over quietly, opening her mouth to speak but before she could get a word out something switched in Arina, she looked back up at Daniella, whose mouth shut suddenly in shock and looked on at her like nothing had happened.
"So, what do you know about Rose?" She asked casually. Daniella was stunned, she stood there for a few moments, clearly missing her chance to speak as Arina spoke up again. "What did she mean by you have a week?"
"Oh, hang on a second!" Daniella replied, looking around the room she found the note Rose had left her and showed it to Arina, she stared at it curiously, cupping a hand across her chin she read it a few times over in her head before turning back to Daniella.
"Interesting," She mused. "Maybe we should start from the beginning. What happened to you the first time she showed up at school?"
Daniella sat down on the bed, patting the space beside her for Arina to sit. She did. And they exchanged stories, grasping at every detail they had about Rose that they could remember.
"Alright..." Arina sighed, pressing her index fingers against her lips she breathed out, narrowing her eyes. "So, she's some kind of sick, all powerful, puppet master who wants our amulets to do god knows what."
"Yep. That's exactly what we're dealing with." Daniella replied, falling back lazily on the bed. Arina flinched as one of her arms draped across her on the small bed, she grinned and shoved it off.
"Get back up here and pay attention!" She said, putting her hands on her hips in a jokingly serious tone.
"But I'm getting borreeeeeed!" Daniella groaned. Arina rolled her eyes, picking up a pillow and throwing it at her, hitting her right in the face! And muffling a startled yelp.
"HEY!" She yelled, grabbing the pillow she sat up quickly, grabbing Arina's arm as she was about to flee the battlefield and throwing the pillow back at her! It hit her in the stomach, she relied back winded. A fierce smirk crossed her lips and a competitive flame sparkled in her eyes.
"Oh you are SO gonna regret that Dani!" Her warcry disolved into giggles as she grabbed another pillow, wacking her so hard in the side a few feathers fell out. Daniella grabbed hold of her pillow and ran to the other side of the room, reiling her arm back and throwing it as hard as she could towards Arina! She tilted her head confused as Arina flashed back a confident grin, pillow bolting right at her she rose a hand up, summoning a pink bubbly shield the pillow bounced off and landed gently on the ground.
"Okay that's cheating." Daniella stated flatly. She ran back and leapt up on the bed, readying her pillow to strike! Arina followed suit, standing up and wielding her pillow in one hand like a sword they dueled for a while! Wobbling as the mattress made for an rather unsteady arena, Daniella at last lost her footing, her feet wound up and tangled in the bedsheets she fell onto the ground with a frightened scream!
Arina clasped her hands over her mouth in shock, dropping her pillow she jumped off the bed and kneeled down next to her. She'd landed rough, her expression was blank, and her eyes were shut.
"Dani? Daniella? A-are you okay?!" She asked shakily, Daniella didn't respond, just laid there limply for a awhile until suddenly something filled Arina's vision, a white fluffy object hit her in the face! She grabbed it and pulled it off herself to see Daniella sitting up and giggling maniacally.
"NOT COOL DANIELLA." She yelled angrily.
"I'm sorry-! But I- I just- had to-!" Daniella apologised between bouts of laughter. Arina huffed annoyed, pelting Daniella over and over again with the pillow.
"I YIELD! I YIELD!" She giggled, Arina slowed her attack and Daniella took the opportunity to grab the end of the pillow and pull it away taking Arina with it! With a yelp she fell forward on top of her! Their shocked and slightly awkward eyes met, Daniella let the corners of her mouth rise into a clumsy smile.
"Hi." She said with an out of breath laugh.
"Hi." Arina blushed, smiling in such a way that her whole face lit up, Daniella couldn't take her eyes off of it.
They just stared at eachother for a moment, breathing heavily from their intense battle. Neither of them could remember the last time they'd had so much fun.
"Hey, s-so, are you still looking for someone to partner up with on this Rose case? Y-you know, in the um, long term?" Daniella asked, watching as Arina bolted up off of her, Daniella sat up too, heart stopping as she looked to check Arina's expression, begging it wasn't pained, or worried, or upset! She gasped as she noticed a tear roll down Arina's cheek.
"A-Ari? I-I'm sorry! Did I-?"
"YES! YES! THANK YOU!" She screamed! Daniella saw a brief glimpse of Arina's face, beaming with joy! Before throwing her arms around Daniella.
"Y-you're welcome. Friend." She replied, letting herself relax and embracing the warmth enimating from Arina, it was strange, she had the ability to strike such a joyful chord in Daniella, but at the same time she also seemed so pained and hurt inside. As Daniella held her, she felt an overwhelming feeling to keep her like this, to freeze time so she could stay this happy forever.
