Author's Note: I wasn't kidding when I said it was a long chapter! This is actually one of my favourites to date. Hope you enjoy :D

"Hello? B-Brianna?" Arina called shakily. Peering around the room her heart dropped suddenly, the gym, obviously this is where the prom would be held... Well, at least it wasn't at all how it looked like in her drawing. The disco ball was spike-less, the streamers and balloons looked fairly safe. The back wall was lined with snack tables, to the right was a DJ setup and at the front was a pretty but cheap looking backdrop for photos to be taken.
Arina heard a noise behind her, she turned quickly to face it. "Brianna? Oh-!" Arina froze in place as Daniella stood in the doorway in front of her.
"Oh my god!" Arina gasped, looking her up and down. Daniella's dress was dazzling! The top half a deep ocean blue suit that faded to white at the cuffs of her sleeves, accessorized with a turquoise green bow tie. The bottom half was a ball gown style skirt, blue fading into the same turquoise green at the bottom, decorated with shiny fish scales at the waist that shifted from bluey green to pink as the light gleamed across them. And on top of it all a sheer layer of sea foam white fabric. She looked stunning...
"D-Daniella, Y-you-" Arina stuttered in shock.
Daniella's face turner bright red. "You hate it don't you. God, I knew it was too much!"
"No no no! No, no... Really, no." Arina interrupted. "You look- it's just-! Wow..."
"Good wow?"
"Amazing wow."
Daniella blushed, her eyes fell away from Arina as she looked thoughtfully at her feet. Rubbing her arm she mumbled out, "This was my coronation dress... Ha, I haven't worn it since I was 15..."
Arina tilted her head in confusion.
"Oh, right." Daniella smiled, "Well, at that age Sirens born into royalty get officially recognized as the rightful hire to the throne. I was so pissed that I had to wear this frilly, thing. But mum insisted, and I'll be honest, It did make me feel pretty powerful standing up before the kingdom. The sunlight reflected off the scales onto other fish, other Sirens wearing scaled clothing... The rays of light bounced off beautiful but delicate blue finned fish swimming close to the shore, making it's way to the gemstone decorated purses of the wealthy, shining upon the cheap yet skillfully polished shells of the poor, lingering on the dangerous majesty of the great white sharks as they circled the waters in search of prey. All this from a single ray of light that choose to glimmer on my dress, scattering across my kingdom... It- It made me feel connected you know? Like everything was so clear..."
Arina was listening so intently that she forgot to speak up when it was her turn, leading Daniella to duck her head in embarrassment.
"Sorry, didn't mean to get all touchy feely..."
"No no! It's fine! I really like hearing about your past... I always forget you used to be a princess." Arina giggled. "Where you came from... It sounds wonderful."
"It was..." Daniella bit her lip, squinting her eyes she coughed to disguise a sniff. No, she was over this. It happened years ago! She was over this. "I- um, I-I really miss it actually. I miss the waves and the caverns, I miss swimming all the time, never having to walk. I miss exploring, and playing with my friends... I miss knowing who I was a-and feeling like I belonged. B-but I, I really- really miss-! I-I'm sorry, I'm sor-"
Arina stopped her, pulling Daniella into the room she hugged her tight. "Don't apologize." She whispered.
Daniella's head sunk into Arina's shoulder, she sniffled. "I-I miss them. I miss my family." She finished, Arina said nothing, just hugged. Rubbing her hand across her back she let Daniella grieve. Finally Daniella broke away and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Thanks... I needed that."
