It took the Baudelaire's a while to realize that they were being watched. They had been on the same bench for about twelve hours and had just finished eating breakfast which was the last of the leftover food they had brought from the island. They knew they could not eat the large amount of hybrid apples as they were the cure for the Medusoid Mycelium.
At around 8am Klaus Baudelaire saw another flicker of light off a nearby garbage can. "We should go check that out" Violet pointed out. The two older children got up and picked up the smaller ones, as they walked casually into the direction of where the light was coming from. They came across a bakery and saw a woman. She had long black hair and was wearing a leather jacket. She was about 5 foot 9 and looked about 30. She gestured at the children to come sit next to her which they did hesitantly.
Hello, Baudelaire's my name is Sally Sebald. I know that you may think that I am suspicious but I wanted to have a Very Functional Discussion. Klaus quickly picked up the use of the V.F.D acronym and quickly asked "Which side of the schism are you on". That is a Very Fair Demand and I am proud to say I am on the fire fighting side. "How can we trust you" Sunny asked. "Another fair question young Sunny" Sally said.
"Well if you recall the time with your second guardian" Sally started. "Uncle Monty" Violet said saddened. "Yes" Sally continued. "Do you recall the name of his assistant, also the director of the movie you watched". "Gustav" Klaus said confused. "Do you recall his full name" she asked further. "Gustav Sebald ,he escorted us to Mr.Poe's office to head to Uncle Monty's house ,
He's your brother" Violet questioned. "Was" Sally said sadly. "He was killed while trying to make sure you got to your Uncle's house safely. "We are so sorry Miss Sebald" Klaus said. "It's ok" she replied. "Death has become quite common in our secret organization" she said. "Anyways, I saw you at Mulctuary Money Management, Violet and I couldn't believe it because you three were believed to be dead along with that horrid Olaf and Kit, also who is the little one" she asked.
"Well we were stranded on the island for a year and Beatrice is the daughter of Kit" Klaus said. "And Olaf is dead but so is Kit" he continued on the verge of tears. "I'm so sorry children, follow me and we can catch up more" she said signalling for the children to leave the bakery.
