Chapter Nine
John was a nervous wreck spending the whole day planning him and Adele's date. He wasn't sure if he should go all out for a first impression or keep it simple. He was pretty sure Adele was used to glamour and huge events, maybe this was a time for her to be surprised.
About late afternoon he finally decided what they should do for their date. Something simple and intimate, hopefully she would love it. He had already ordered the dinner and the area as well as the other things they would need. About an hour before she was set to arrive John felt ready.
He had gotten to know some of the guys and realized how much of an advantage he had. He had been dealing with the princess ever since that day he met her, it had been a few years so he knew more about her than any of those men did.
Then the fact she allowed him to comfort her when it came to this, they already had a connection. John was curious as to how she felt about it now but he doubted she would open up to him about it with the cameras rolling. He still had to get past the mindset of being a guy that was courting her and not working for her.
John sighed taking one last look at the room and sending Adele a text message saying to wear something comfy. He headed back upstairs to make sure he looked presentable and waited until his date with the princess.
Adele quickly raced up to her room before any of the men could see her. She was still blushing from her and Damien's date, she had so much fun. It was a really good way to start this show off. Her mother had told her to keep a journal so she could write in it after each date.
It was actually a good idea, an easier way to decide who she wanted. So Adele slipped off her heels then grabbed the notebook and plopped on the bed to start writing. She just couldn't wipe the smile off her face when she spilled everything out on that piece of paper.
Sighing in contentment Adele glanced up to see her phone screen turn on. Grabbing it off the dresser she saw John's name pop up, "Wear something comfy"
Then she noticed the time, she had fifteen minutes to get ready and meet him downstairs. Quickly closing her notebook she ran into her bathroom checking her appearance, okay she needing some touching up.
Turning on the straightener and applying just a dab more of makeup Adele walked into her closet, wear something comfortable. She looked all through her dresses but wasn't sure what he meant by comfy. Finally she slipped on an ivory dress with green patterns that was light and airy.
Putting her small feet in green flats she ran her hair through the straightener and locked the door to her room as she headed out. Her footsteps were heard through the hall when the men weren't chattering or hollering in the game room.
Adele chuckled making her way downstairs, she had a feeling they would love that. Finally reaching the foyer of the house Shawn linked her arm with his leading her to John. The camera crew following right behind to capture every moment between them.
John stood up as she noticed he was in the living room of her house, that was strange they normally met her outside. "Good evening princess" he smiled as she smirked tilting her head, "Oh gosh sorry Adele"
"Good evening John" she chuckled as he held out his hands. She grabbed them pulling him into a hug, it just amazed her that her military advisor was trying to win her heart.
"You look stunning but I told you to wear something comfortable" he chuckled."This is comfortable"
"No like pajamas, you know, wait you do wear pajamas right?"
Adele laughed causing his cheeks to heat up, "Yes of course I do, well I'll go change then" she said turning on her heel to go back up to her room. Ten minutes later she was heading back into the living room in a sweater, leggings, and socks since John told her no shoes with her hair pulled up into a ponytail. "Is this better?" she chuckled when his gaze met hers.
"Much better Addie, I think-" his eyes went wide as she watched him, he was so shy.
"I'm so sorry, shoot I knew not to use nicknames!"
"No wait, I actually like it"
"But they told us-"
"I make the rules" he nodded as she approached him. Addie, she could get used to that. It rolled so easily off his tongue that it was almost like he had that in his head for a while.
John pulled her on the couch as she chuckled watching the servants bring out dinner. It had been a while since she actually ate in the living room, normally it was in some fancy restaurant or in the dining room. He handed her the plate as she smiled.
How he knew this was her favorite meal she'd never know but it definitely made a good impression. She chuckled reclining on the couch with her plate of spaghetti, right now she didn't care about proper etiquette. Spaghetti was messy and she could care less if the cameras were rolling.
She watched as John twirled his fork in the noddles slowly taking bites so she followed. Adele was not concerned what the guys thought about her appetite, she ate a lot and loved food. John smiled when she caught his eye, he was honestly adorable.
He had to be the toughest guy she knew but he had the sweetest personality which is exactly why he was her military advisor. She had to get out of that mindset, for the time being he wasn't working for her.
Once they finished John leaned back on the couch propping his feet up. "I thought maybe we could watch a movie" he smiled inviting her to lay beside him.
She chuckled getting comfortable next to him, this was the simplest thing and she adored it. "What are we watching?" she asked looking up into his dark brown eyes, sometimes they appeared black.
"Well someone told me you love Frozen"
"Hmmm who would that be?"John laughed wrapping his arms around her shoulders. He seemed confident but she could feel him shaking, he was so nervous. Pressing the play button she rested her head on his shoulder hearing his breathing hitch.
He smelled really good which was the first thing she noticed. Adele wasn't into looks that much but she really believed that how the guy smelt was a huge factor in attraction. She scooted herself closer to him enjoying the warmth of another human being.
Adele missed all this. As much as she hated to admit it, she was lonesome before but now she craved the touch of another person. She wanted what so many people called love, and hopefully this show would give her just that.
She grabbed one of his hands intwining all their fingers, she missed that too. The simple act of holding hands, maybe four years without a guy was making her believe in crazy things and notice how much a simple touch could mean. Her parents were always affectionate with her and her brother but this type of affection was different.
Adele felt herself getting drowsy as she sighed taking in the moment with John. This date was amazing, it was simple and intimate and laid back. She didn't feel pressure to do anything even with the cameras rolling.
"Addie?" John spoke up causing her to glance up at him. "Could I kiss you?"
She smiled hearing him ask permission to actually kiss her, he wanted to make sure she was alright with it before he just made a move. "I'd love that" with that he slowly swooped down to gently press his lips against hers.
The way he was kissing her was so soft and gentle like she could break at any moment. He was being respectful with her, first asking her permission and then barely brushing their lips together. John slowly pulled away opening his black eyes into her blue ones.
It was adorable seeing that little smile on his lips when Adele traced them with her finger. Well that one threw her for a loop, she thought she liked a guy who would take control but now she liked the fact he was trying to win her over. Adele snuggled up to him once more to catch the last part of the movie before both of them closed their eyes to rest.
