Chapter Fourteen
Adele slipped on her dress getting ready for her date with Hudson, she wasn't too sure about him since he looked sort of like a tough guy. She just couldn't get over that all these men were after her, some for true love and others for just the power.
Hopefully soon she would reveal who was after what but for now she was still getting to know them. Securing the door behind her she headed down the hall seeing it was empty, some of the men were still sleeping.
She saw Shawn standing at the bottom of the stairs as she smiled, she was so thankful that he was protective. Right now she felt like she could trust no one but him, she was comfortable with him. Once Shawn made eye contact his face lit up seeing her descend down the stairs.
Shawn held his hand out for her to help her with the last few as she planted a kiss on his cheek. After that scene in the nightclub she was really attached to him. He chuckled pressing his lips against the side of her head.
"Good morning Princess" Shawn said linking her arm with his. Adele smiled glancing at Hudson, wow he really had the bad boy thing going on. "Ready for your date?"
"I am" she responded as Shawn let go of her arm causing Hudson to grab both her hands. He pulled her into him quickly placing a kiss on her forehead, well maybe he wasn't so bad.
"Come on" Hudson smiled tugging her towards the living room. Adele chuckled letting him pull her wherever he had planned. He led her through the room, down the hall, past the sliding glass doors and outside to her back yard.
Hudson just kept chuckling seeing the confused look on Adele's face. He eventually stopped in the middle of her rose garden while she looked around seeing a blanket on the grass. Adele noticed the picnic basket and the bottle of wine set up on the ground.
He tugged on her arm as he sat down so she followed plopping besides him. Then he brought out small sandwiches handing her one while he held on to another. With a quick nod Adele began eating, wow these were good.
After a few sandwiches and a glass of wine the two of them just talked and Adele found it really easy to do with him. "Tell me about your family" Adele said leaning on her side.
Hudson chuckled but it sounded like a forced laugh. She tilted her head waiting for him to continue after he wiped his mouth. "I actually never had a family, my parents both died when I was five"
Adele gasped seeing his forced smile, "I'm so sorry I didn't mean to bring that up"
"No it's fine" he said, no wonder he acted like a tough guy he actually had to. "I lived in an orphanage until I was eighteen then they kicked me out since I wasn't willing to work there. Honestly though I hated it, they were all so pitiful towards me when I had no clue what was going on"
Tears started welling up in her eyes as she placed her hand over his, it wasn't fair people had to deal with this. "How did they die?"
"Truthfully I'm not sure, everyone told me so many different stories that I don't believe any of them" he said while Adele nodded. "Please don't cry princess"
"I'm sorry" she wiped her eyes feeling Hudson's hand take hold of hers. "I think my life is hard with all these rules and responsibilities but then when I hear what other people have been through-" she sighed. "Its just not fair"
Hudson lightly chuckled, "Life isn't fair" Adele took a deep breath moving to wrap him up in a hug, now she understood the bad boy image. "I'm okay now"
Adele nodded clinging onto him hoping in some way she would be able to help him. Well I guess it was true, no one ever truly got the whole story the first time they met. Hudson snuggled his head into the curve of her neck as she tried to calm down.
Then she realized why he worked in the fields, he worked any job he could to support himself. "Did you have any siblings?" She whispered to him feeling him shake his head, only child.
Poor guy, Adele thought her life was hard to handle but his. He really could survive anything, the loss of his parents. Hudson lifted his face to meet his hazel eyes with her blue ones. He rested his forehead against hers while Adele brought herself closer to him.
For some crazy reason she wanted to help him and all the other children grieving through this. Maybe her parents would allow her to work in the orphanages even though her main branch was the military.
Right now though she had to focus on the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with. Hudson wrapped his arm around her waist gently pressing his lips against hers. She leaned into him running her fingers through his hair feeling him pull her as close as he could.
Adele slightly pulled away still keeping her forehead on his, she smiled grabbing one of his hands to entangle their fingers. She noticed a lot of these men were very affectionate, maybe that was one of the requirements.
"Princess?" Shawn called causing Adele to completely pull away, her date with Hudson was already over. She nodded turning back to Hudson seeing him already staring at her. Adele cupped his face in her hands planting a soft kiss on his lips before he helped her up.
Shawn linked her arm with his leading her to the stairs were she ran up to her room going to the bathroom to clean up her makeup. After all that crying she looked like a mess. Wiping off all her makeup Adele sat on her bed doing what she did best now, write until her next date.
