Lay next to me
Place a rose on your chest
The white cloth stained red
Your eyes gently shut
I wait for the flutter of your eyelash
A jolt of the hand
But you don't wake
You don't even try
I remember the way you smiled
The way you threw your head back
You ran a hand through your hair
I couldn't see this coming
But here you are
Your button-down shirt stained red
I copied your movements
Enclosing your hand in mine
Fluttering my eyes shut
Don't make a sound
I touch your chest
Still stained red
My tears drip down
Until you wake
I suffer
You slowly rise
I feel ashamed
You run a hand through my hair
Whispering to me
That everything is going to be okay
