it was slow. daeun thought it had failed at first. she nearly broke down.

and then there was a slight buzz near her temples. she must have appeared confused because the doctor motioned to the two beside her.

she turned to face soonyoung.

"daeun, can you hear me?" tears fled her eyes. it was a small electronic sound that anyone else would miss, but it was a sound and daeun heard it.

she nodded to soonyoung and suddenly she was being embraced by both him and her mother.

go soojin was crying from joy. she knew how hard this had been for her daughter and felt so happy that the last wound from that accident had healed. her family, although smaller than it used to be, was healing.

seeing her daughter trust and be cared for by another person only warmed her heart more. soojin made eye contact with soonyoung and gave her silent approval, receiving a confused look in return.

they're young. they will realize it soon enough.

soonyoung had never felt more relieved. he was so scared the implant had messed up or something worse would happen in the surgery. daeun was fine and it worked.

he suddenly remembered the song that he had been working on. daeun would finally be able to hear it!

he quickly reminded her of it, signing out of habit as he talked rapidly. he had picked up sign language over the time he had known daeun and was fairly competent in the silent language.

daeun's eyes brightened. the first song she would hear in seven years would be soonyoung's!

after the rest of the appointment, the duo nearly ran to their apartment building.
