"hey."
daeun smiles from her hospital bed.
"hey."
a silence falls over the pair, neither sure where to begin.
"so, i met your mom." daeun nearly falls out of the bed, her face flushing red in embarrassment.
"oh god please tell me it wasn't humility for me."
"oh totally. she shared your baby pictures and everything." soonyoung cocked a grin at daeun's face paling before turning serious again.
"no, she only told me about your injuries." a small "oh" was heard from the girl, her hand instinctively touching her right ear. she knew there had been bleeding, but how can you break something that's already broken?
"how are your ears? are you in pain? is there anything i can do? i hate seeing you like this—" daeun gently touched soonyoung's arm, signaling for him to slow his speech and calm down.
"soon, i'm fine. i can't feel any pain in my ears and they're are broken as ever." he gave her a look at that word. broken, she was not and he hated whenever she referred to herself as such. he had made his opinions of her self deprecation clear early on and daeun finally stopped calling herself broken, at least for a while.
"then why did you go into surgery?"
"they wanted to check my ears."
"i can get a cochlear implant."
