"you're going on a what?"

"a date, soonyoung. it's not that big of a deal."

"it is a big deal! what if he doesn't respect you or the fact that you're hard of hearing or he speaks too fast or he's a rude person or he tries to take advantage of you or—" he felt a delicate hand rest on his arm in an attempt to stop his rambling.

"it's going to be fine. he's like me. but he does only use sign language so i guess no talking for a while."

daeun thought it was adorable and sweet that soonyoung was so worried about her over a small little date, but soonyoung couldn't help but feel worried for another reason.

what if she likes him better than me? what if she wants him because he can understand her better?

as a matter of fact, soonyoung has had these thoughts in his brain for a long time. while he may have been attracted to daeun when they first met, he truly began to fall for her about two months into their friendship.

it was the dead of winter and the two were walking through a park through the snow when a little girl ran up to them, crying that she was lost. she had lost her heavy coat somewhere and had no idea how to get back to the play area.

the first thing daeun did was kneel down, take off her own coat, and place it around the little girl's shoulders before the two walked her back to the playground and her mother.

that kind of selflessness was beautiful. it was almost instinctual, no thought to daeun's own welfare in order to help a child.

that wasn't when he knew he was in love. but that was when he knew he was falling hard, and fast.

ever since that moment, soonyoung had been trying to keep his feelings bottled up, but with every new day spent with her, the love soonyoung carried for daeun grew and grew.
