The Yule Ball. That seemed to be the only thing anyone was talking about lately, everyone wondering what they'd wear and who they'd go with.

So, of course, the one day you miss class was the day Professor McGonagall was teaching everyone how to properly waltz.

You had no clue how to.

You were sat in the library when your best friend, Neville Longbottom, came over to you.

"(Y/N)! Where were you? You missed McGonagall's lesson on-"

"Dancing, so I've heard. I got caught up helping Madame Pomfrey in the hospital wing," you explained.

You let out a groan and dropped your head onto the table. "What am I gonna do, Neville? Someone asked me last week and I'm gonna look like a bloody idiot in front of him!"

"Wait. S-someone asked you? Who?" Neville stammered, taking a seat in front of you.

"Cedric. He's that Hufflepuff who sits in the back of our Herbology class," you explained, lifting your head up.

Neville rolled his eyes. "Him? Really? All he does is cause trouble."

"Well, it's not like anyone else was going to ask me."

Neville opened his mouth to speak, but quickly shut it. "Right..." he mumbled.

Ever since Neville met you, he had been harboring a crush on you. The two of you became best friends because of your love for Herbology. You both would chat endlessly about what you learned about new plants, sharing everything you read.

He could be himself around you, and he loved that.

Hearing that he wouldn't be able to take you to the Yule Ball made his heart drop.

**A few weeks later...**

The Yule Ball was in two days, and you were frantically searching for Neville.

You ran into the Gryffindor common room to find him sitting in front of the fire, reading a book.

"Neville! I need your help," you urged, grabbing his arm to pull him up to drag him out of the room.

"W-what? With what?" He questioned, following close behind you.

"Just come with me, okay?!"

Neville nodded and followed you in silence.

Finally, the two of you reached the black lake when you stopped.

"What are we doing here?" Neville asked, standing next to you.

"You've been practicing dancing for the ball, right?"

Neville's cheeks turned a light pink. "Y-yeah? Why?"

You placed your hands on his shoulders. "I need you to teach me how to dance."

He furrowed his eyebrows. "Y-you want me to-"

"Teach me how to dance," you repeated. "Please. I've been so distracted getting my dress and classes that I never learned."

"I-I don't know if I can... I-I'm not that good," Neville muttered, running his fingers through his hair.

That's when you gave him your biggest puppy eyes. "Pleeeeease?" You smiled.

Neville couldn't hide his grin and chuckled. "Okay okay. I'll try." He finally said.

"Yes! Thank you, Neville!" You beamed, throwing your arms around him in a hug. He wrapped his arms around you, feeling his cheeks heat up once more.

"Okay, so... I'm gonna put my hand on your waist... A-and you put your hand on my shoulder," He instructed. You did what you were told.

Neville gulped. "N-now, I have to take your hand."

Suddenly, the moment he touched your hand, you felt sparks running up your arms. You felt a small flutter in your stomach, and looked down to hide your rosy cheeks.

Neville taught you everything. How to move your feet, the right posture, and always remembering to smile.

"You're a natural, (Y/N)!" Neville marveled, giving you a spin.

"Thank y-"

But before you could finish, your foot got caught on a tree root, causing you to fall, bringing Neville down with you.

All the two of you could do was laugh. But, once you realized you had fallen on top of him, the laughing began to die down, until you were both left just staring at each other.

You quickly scrambled off of him, helping him up.

"T-thank you for teaching me, Neville," you stuttered. "I owe you big time."

And with that, you left in an attempt to hide your flustered face, leaving behind Neville, who was also red as well.

**The night of the ball...**

You were beautiful. The dress you wore was floor length and in your favorite color, your makeup perfectly accentuated your dress and your eyes, making you shine as soon as you entered the room.

You made your way into the hallway leading to the Great Hall, all eyes falling on you as you came down the steps. Including Neville's.

He stared at you in awe as you reached the bottom of the stairs.

"(Y/N)... You look..." he started, until another voice cut him off.

"Wow." The voice said. You turned your head to see Edward, your date. He came up to you and took you by the hand, giving it a small kiss.

"Come on, let's go inside," he held his arm out for you to take. You placed your hand on his arm, letting him lead you into the Great Hall.

As the night went on, you discovered your date wasn't as interested in you as you thought.

All throughout the ball, you saw him stealing glances with a girl who came with another date. You grabbed his sleeve, pulling him outside of the Great Hall.

"Why did you ask me to come here if you were just going to stare at that girl the whole time?"

Neville, who was dancing with Ginny, took notice. Then, he watched Edward walk away from you.

"Neville?" Ginny asked.

"Huh?"

"Go talk to her. I think I'm gonna turn in early."

"Ginny, you don't-"

"No, it's okay. My feet are killing me anyway," Ginny ended with a smile. She gave Neville a gentle nudge before leaving the Great Hall.

You slumped down in a chair at one of the empty tables, hiding your face in your hands.

"(Y/N)? Are you okay?" A familiar voice asked.

You looked up to see Neville's warm, green eyes looking back at you.

"I just wanted this night to be perfect," you mumbled.

"What happened?" Neville asked, taking a seat next to you.

"He only asked me to be his date to make his ex-girlfriend jealous. He was just using me," you sighed.

Neville was quiet for a moment before speaking.

"He didn't deserve you anyway. You're way out of his league," he grinned, nudging you with his shoulder. You giggled, placing your head on Neville's shoulder.

The two of you sat quietly for a bit. Then, Neville stood up, and bowed to you.

"Neville?" You asked, raising an eyebrow at him.

"The night isn't over yet. Show me what I taught you," Neville smiled, holding his hand out for you to take.
