It was awfully difficult for both Harry and Y/N to comprehend what was about to happen. She knew it would be happening soon; with all of the danger that had been circulating with the Dark Lord and Harry, it was obvious that he would soon have to leave to save his own life. It happened too soon for her, much earlier than she expected. Everybody, including herself, was under the impression that he would be able to finish his final year at Hogwarts, nobody anticipated that he would instead be on the run from everybody. The Dark Forces had taken over the ministry and was after Harry and his friends. Y/N had begged him to go with her, but he got angry with her and told her off, stating that it was too dangerous for her to be sighted with him and to remain at Hogwarts, the safest place in the wizarding community. She wanted to write, but he said that they would be staying in different locations and he would have no way of writing back.

She often thought about the last time she saw Harry. He apparated to her home in the country to say goodbye. The two embraced each other for an incredibly long time, countless tears were spilt and the couple found it impossible to say goodbye, no matter how much they knew they had to. Harry pressed his lips to Y/N's, leaving her with the feeling of him against her, and whispered a heartfelt goodbye to her, telling her it would not be long until they were reunited and made a promise that he would stay alive for her, for their love, so that they could meet up after the apprehending war and spend their lives together. She promised him that she would stay alive for him also, and the two spent a few minutes just taking in the appearance of the other, knowing that very soon, they may never see each other despite their spoken words.

It got harder for Y/N after she had returned to Hogwarts. She sat with Neville on the train to school, holding small talk with him about the next year and what could happen, trying to keep the conversation light hearted and optimistic. He was able to notice her pain and reassured her that Harry would indeed be okay.

"He's an amazing wizard, Y/N. As well as that, Ron and Hermione are by his side, and they are also brilliant wizards. He'll be perfectly fine, I promise you." She hugged Neville, smiling and thanking him for the speech. He nodded, and they decided to play a game of Exploding Snap. Suddenly, the train halted to a stop. The lights on the train flickered. Y/N looked to Neville, who looked to the door. The handle was lifted and into the carriage walked two Death Eaters. The girl was petrified, she had no protection against these two men if they decided to attack. Neville took a protective step in front of her, looking the two men straight in the eye.

"Hey, losers. He isn't here."

They left silently, and Neville sat back down. He had a look of pride on his face, and Y/N encouraged him. Neville had never had any type of courage like that before, and this sudden outburst lightened her heart completely. However, there was still a constant grey cloud weighing her down.

"Things are really going to change this year, aren't they?"

The year was dreadful. The amount of first years had decreased, too many parents were terrified of what would happen at Hogwarts with Professor Snape as headmaster and with the Dark Lord on the rise. Dumbledore's army reunited in secret, and it was wonderful to have a tiny bit of optimism to look towards. But it wasn't the same without Harry, not to Y/N. She knew people had been pitying her- they treated her so kindly and with so much respect, this was not unusual before but now it was being emphasized and she didn't like the attention. She just wanted everything to be over so that she could see her love again. The Carrows were in charge of punishment, and Y/N had fallen victim to them many times, solely because of Harry being her boyfriend. They used the Cruciatus Curse on her many times, and she was often seen walking around with bruised eyes and swollen lips. It was unfair to her.

She was also put into detention a lot. One Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson, she had refused to practice the Cruciatus Curse on first years, due to her experience of what it felt like. The children did nothing wrong, and they were children only. What was happening was neither justified or moral, it was pure evil and there was nothing which could change her opinion on that. Fellow Gryffindors tried to comfort her about the whole situation, but nothing got through to her. She was just concerned about Harry's health and whereabouts.
