I sat typing away at my computer which sat on the table in Norma's room that was now mine for the time being. It had been over three weeks since we had killed the family, nothing much had come of it at least for us. There were many news reports of the missing people when they did not visit their family the following day. The rest of their family had called into the police after 48 hours of their disappearance and the news channels picked it up right away.
Norman seemed to ignore the reports as I watched them every time I could, wanting to see if they somehow caught whiff of what had actually happened. They found the empty car a week after the murders, Norman and I had burned the bodies and their stuff before dumping the tiny ashes in the lake and tossing the barrel that we initially burned them all in at a random corner as a hidden trash can. As that first week went by Norman and I got a bit closer, they did say murder brought people together after all. We kept working at the motel, I only did so when my actual job was done.
The second week was when the tested the water and found small residence of human remains but nothing was of our DNA, it was off of the four killed victims. I watched interviews of their crying relatives but I did not feel bad at all I simply wanted to make sure that we would not be caught. Norman was an amazing cook I learned and overall he was a kind soul. I could feel him watching me at random points of the day through the walls but it was alright since I never felt eyes on me when naked. Today however, three weeks after was when things would change a bit. I was eating a sandwich when the doorbell rang, Norman was busy upstairs so I went to open the door.
"Good day to you ma'am, I am Benjamin with the police force. It's nothing much but we were just wondering if you and Mr. Bates could answer some questions of the murder case of the Johnsons." The policeman stood with his brunet hair tucked under his hat and hands resting calmly showing that they knew nothing. His whole demeanour showed that the police force saw us as innocent and were simply were to gather any info that anyone in the area could have.
"Of course, come in. I'll get Norman." I guide Benjamin into the sitting room before grabbing him some water and snacks. I quickly find Norman upstairs in his room and his eyes widen when I tell him a police man was downstairs and wished to speak to us.
"T-t-thhey d-don't know do t-t-thhey!" I shook my head, this must bring back bad memories for him.
"No, they just want simple questions and info so be chill and charming." He nods and fixes his clothing before we walk down the steps and join the officer. We sit beside each other in front of the smiling brunette who pulls out a notebook before taking his hat off and putting it beside him.
"Now, are you two married." I open my mouth to respond but Noman beat me and I could tell there was a bit of Norma in the response.
"No not y-yet, but I hope that soon we will be. I p-plan on asking for her hand soon enough as she is the lo-love of my life." I blushed intensely at that, I knew that all of this was for a husband but I never imagine him saying that to police.
"Well I am happy for you, I myself am planning to propose to my love in a few days. I love my boyfriend so much and we've been together for over three years so I think it's time. I am also hoping to adopt soon, we have pets but I want to raise a family with him." All I could think about was how cute that all was, and that we just got on his good side.
"I hope you can soon, I know how long adoption can take since I have friends who's parents adopted them siblings when they couldn't have anymore kids but wanted more. I am sure that you two will make amazing parents." He smiles and nods gratefully.
"Thank you, many people even today are against me and my boyfriend being together and adopting as well but we block them out. So hearing such kind words from such a sweet girl is refreshing when your own grandmother stopped talking to you after you came out gay." Norman wraps an arm around me and I assume its just to play the couple part so I lean into him.
"That must be terrible but this is your life and you deserve this happiness. Now what were you here to ask us about."
"Ah yes, Ma'am we just wanted to know if you had any info on whether the Johnsons stopped her for anything. Directions? A room? Food? Or maybe if you saw them drive by." Norman decided to come into the conversation so I relaxed for a bit.
"Could y-you show us pictures of them and their car?" Ben nods and does so. "I am a-afraid not, no one like that has come in r-recently at all and that car would c-certainly catch my eye seeing how b-beautiful it is."
"And you ma'am?"
"No, I wish I did see them for it could help lead to who did this all. The time of their disappearance is when I was overloaded with work so I was in my room working all day so I am no use to this." He nods and I come up with an idea, I had recently over-ridden the footage of the cameras so it would get rid of us as suspects immodestly if we gave it. "You may have out security footage if you like, maybe something could come from it. Like their car of their killer's."
"That would be very helpful, thank you." I nod and Norman heads off to give him the footage from the motel, kissing my cheek before going in front of the officer to set the whole couple thing but the kiss lingered showing that he wished to just do it and used it as an excuse. I watched as the two walked away, feeling confident that the police would think nothing of us and I would be able to leave to the next killer peacefully in three days.
