I closed the basement door behind me, it making a faint noise when it popped back into the door frame. I barley heard it myself but apparently someone else did as loud footsteps came pounding from the staircase. They were fast and heavy, the person was definitely running. The person I knew was Norman, of course it was him, who else could it be. But only now did I understand what Norma meant by her son being concerned.

I got to take one step away from the basement door before Norman came running around the corner, concern all over his face which disappeared when he saw me. He suddenly pulled me into his arms and I yelped at the motion by the far taller man who pulled me to the floor in a hug. I hugged back as the clingy man got all his emotions and fears out.

"I-I w-was s-so conc-cerened  Y/N." Norman pulled out of the hug but looked me over like a mother would to their child when searching for injuries.

"I'm okay Norman, better than that." Norman coughed and stood up, as if just realizing what he had done. He offered me his hand which I gladly took only to have him pull me up with a bit too much strength to the point that I fell into his chest.

"A-Ah I'm s-so s-sorry, for t-this and for p-pulling y-you to the f-floor. How are y-you better?" Norman brushed his clothing and pulled his shirt down a bit.

"Norman it's okay, I understand why you are sort of clingy and I think that it's cute. Now, I may or may not have gone downstairs-" Norman's eyes open wide as he takes in what I said and cut me off before I could finish my story.

"Y-you did, did m-mother hurt you, did she s-scare you? Oh I h-hope not, please n-no." I shook my head as he spun me around to look for injuries once more, this dude really was a mamma's boy with the traits he picked up.

"I am perfectly fine and Norma was quite sweet actually, it was nice to talk to your mother." He sighs out in relief and his head tilts down, allowing his hair to fall over his eyes which I push back out of impulse. The blush that covers his cheeks after makes me giggle.

"Now, would you l-like to help me out at the motel?"

"I would love to Norman." Norman smiles and offers his hand to me once more, I take it as he loops our fingers together. I move to swing our arms between us and he chuckles at my childish tendencies.

We move down the external steps as the sky is covered in grey clouds but not once that bring a storm. It seemed like there might be drizzles every once and a while or their might be no rain at all. It smelled slightly of rain though, well the smell before rain. It was comforting as we moved into the office of the motel.

"N-now if you could run the front d-desk for me as I clean some room sup that would be a-amazing." I nod and he smiles, guiding me to behind the desk, letting me take the seat over him. He leans over me and explains it all before I resay it all to him.

"So I have to just ask them if they want a room and if not help with what I can, each room and night price is on this sheet right here and then pass them their key before helping them to their room." Norman nods, proud at my ability to remember it all.

"Y-Yes, I'll be off to c-clean then. There is a fridge in the backroom if you get hungry." I nod and wave as he leaves, the bell above the door ringing as he does so. I sit in silence for a while, my phone being my only entertainment.

Games, books, YouTube, social media and texting got me through an hour of sitting until I heard the sounds of car tires on gravel. A few seconds later 2 adults walk in with their teenage son and younger son who looked about 8. The couple seemed so in love with their hands interlocked and the looks they gave each other, their son though looked like the stereotypical joke who didn't want to join the family on the trip.

"Hello, welcome to the Bates Motel." I put a bright smile on my lips as the wife speaks up.

"Hello, thank you. We would like 2 rooms, 1 for us and 1 for our kids." I nod and look down to see the room options.

"Would you like 2 single beds or 1 queen for the kids to share." The farther cut in.

"The cheaper one please, little jimmy here spent all my money on ice creams." At this point the 8 years old jumped in.

"No I didn't daddy, Eric spent it all on his video games." I muffled a giggle before calculating the total for their stay.

"Two single beds then and 1 queen bed for you two, that'll be $350." they nod and pay, signing what needs to be signed. I lead them to their room and offer to help with their stuff which they decline cause their jock son could do it they said.

The parents got their room first and then the kids, jimmy quickly ran in to claim his bed as Eric stayed back. I already knew that he would be trouble by the look in his eyes when I turned to look at him. His mouth opened to speak and he stepped closer, I could only imagine what would happen next.
