I braced myself against the brick wall near the door the man had escaped into when I finished teleporting. Teleporting long distances was draining me of energy. I didn't dwell on it, knowing much more important things than my health were at stake.
The door was locked and there were no windows so I would have to break in the old fashioned way. I pulled out my smallest knife and began fiddling with the lock. No one noticed as I opened the now unlocked door and pulled it shut behind me, everyone too caught up in the ongoing parade.
Once inside, I immediately heard footsteps coming from the hallway to my right. I kept my steps silent as I moved swiftly down the corridor. I peeked into the room and spotted the man I saw entering into the building. He was alone. As he turned, I drew my knife and pressed it against his throat. His wide, panicked eyes met my harsh brown ones in seconds.
"Where is he?" I barked, showing off my sharp canines in the process. The man stumbled back into a wall, allowing me the push the knife deeper into his skin.
"I d-don't know what you're talking about." The man gasped out, the words falling from his lips in quick slurs. I narrowed my eyes at his bullshit response.
"What is this place?" I questioned, venom on each word.
"A warehouse. That's all," The man said, a few tears falling from his eyes. Pathetic. I pushed the knife deeper, knowing he was lying through his teeth. "Okay! A warehouse for exotic species. We're smugglers. Traders for auctions!" Fear was embedded in his voice but I took no pity and slashed his throat. He dropped the ground in a heap and I continued on through a slightly open door.
I felt like I was going in circles when all the rooms looked the same. Plain concrete, white tables and chairs, empty boxes and cages, and no Wild. I stopped moving when I walked into yet another room with two doors on either side. I was getting nowhere.
My body froze completely when I heard a faint scream. I made a mad dash to the left, throwing the door against the wall in my wake. Another scream sounded and this time I was sure it was Wild. He was scared and it pushed me to move even faster.
I found my way into a large room with a few empty cages but my eyes didn't linger there long. In the left corner of the room sat a man. A man who not only was touching Wild but hurting him in the process. He was crouched down in front of a cage that Wild was clinging desperately too. Tears had welled up in his eyes and his wrists looked to be rubbed raw from the odd looking bracelets on them.
I saw red.
My vision focused in on the man touching something that was mine. I sprinted at him and rammed into his side, throwing him to the ground. I abandoned my knife in favor of my fists, wanting to give this man as much prolonged pain as possible. I slammed my knuckles into his face, over and over again, until I couldn't tell it was the same man. The sickening crack of his nose and other bones was music to my ears. He struggled against me but was no match and soon blacked out. I didn't stop though.
I continued beating him until a small, shaking hand rested on my shoulder. I paused at the touch. I turned my head slightly and met watery golden orbs. I picked up my knife off the floor and looked back at Wild.
"Turn away," I said softly. Wild didn't argue and put his back to me. I pushed the knife into the side of the man's head and stood quickly. I rested my hands on Wild shoulders, hating how he jumped at my touch. I dismissed it though when he turned back and buried his face into my chest. I wasted no time in hugging the fairy back, pulling him as close as I could, erasing the existence of space between us.
"Let's go," I mumbled into his hair. I kept my arms around his body as I lead him through the door I came in. Wild stopped, forcing me to stop, when he heard a small rattling sound coming from his left. I followed his gaze to the offending cage and listened to the small whimpering noises.
Wild took a step closer and my arm quickly shot out in front of him. Wild looked up to me frowning.
"We don't know what's under there," I said softly. Wild ignored my warning words and reached out to pull the cloth off of the cage. I kept my arm securely around Wild as the cloth fell away. Wild gasped when he saw what was sitting inside. Three little flying manta rays, all looking to be siblings, sat inside. They were whimpering and looked to be a bit beat up.
"Can we take them with us? Please," Wild said, turning his teary eyes up to my face. I sighed and began to open my mouth to refuse. They would be a hassle and only bring more attention. I shut my mouth quickly when a small glare entered his gaze. "I'm not leaving without them Zypher."
I nodded and crouched down to get closer to the lock. Instead of picking it like I did the door, I broke it open. I pulled open the small cage door and fell back a bit when three blurry shapes rushed past me. Wild made a sound like he had been hit and my eyes shot to him.
The three manta rays had latched themselves onto Wild and showed no signs of letting go. Wild smiled at me when they began emitting a quiet purring noise. I managed a little smile back.
"Let's get out of here," I said, reaching out to grab his hand. The manta rays turned on me quickly and hissed in warning. I frowned and hissed back angrily. They backed down and I took Wilds hand proudly, leading him out of the horrid building.
