~Haren~
As he watched the figure of a large wyvern fly closer, he heard Artemis shout something just as he yelled the order for the other soldiers to retreat. They had both realized what it was.
"Major Artemis, you're the only one staying. All other soldiers need to retreat inside the compound," He yelled as the figure touched down a few feet away.
"Master, That's an elder black wyvern!" Artemis shouted as the soldiers started retreating into the base.
"I know," He replied, readying his sword," Artemis you know the drill,"
"Right. Enra Enra Heran Mel: Buff," While she cast a barrier over the gate, he studied the elder wyvern in front of him.
Unlike adult and runt wyverns, who act purely on instinct, elder wyverns could understand people to some degree. They were much tougher than adults and this one was black. The strongest type of wyvern. Since it was also an elder-type, it would be even harder to take down. Most people would have to be out of their minds to try.
As the two made solid eye contact, the wyvern lunged forward. Though it was still a few yards away, it's dragon-esque size allowed the large creature to close the gap in three quick strides. It's fangs barred and poised to sink into something. There was a loud clang as it's mouth closed down on Harens' sword.
"Careful, Darling. Black wyverns have venomous fangs. If they so much as graze you—"
"I know, August. They have paralysis venom. Don't worry," Haren replied as he wrenched the sword from the wyverns jaw. Tearing a small fang with it.The creature roared in pain and reeled back. Roaring as it whipped around. Slamming its tail into Harens side and threw him a few feet across the field. As contact was made between the two, Haren heard a loud crack and pain exploded in his side. The impact had broken one of his ribs.
The wyvern stopped suddenly after its attack. Haren realized what it was doing too late. He bit back a yelp as his arms, which he had raised last second to protect his face, were burned from his wrist to his elbow by the black wyverns flaming breath. His left arm was worse off than his right. The right being metal only lost the ability to camouflage as skin and went back to its natural black color of machinery.
Taking advantage of the temporary smoke screen, the wyvern lunged forward again. This time, its claws raked down Harens leg as he jumped away. When the wyvern clawed at him again, he tried to block but the burn on his arm prevented him from putting enough strength behind his sword and he was forced backward again.
"This isn't working," He growled.
"Darling, calm down and think about the situation for a moment. What can we do to turn this in favor of us?" August advised.
"With my arm burned the sword is too heavy for me to use properly. I'd need something lighter. I had speed going for me since it's so much bigger, but it got my leg and it hasn't healed like my ribs yet," Haren replied, dodging away from the black beast.
"Let's both make a mental note: Black wyvern venom blocks your healing ability," August said," Th-- Watch out for that breath attack!"
With Augusts warning, Haren was just barely able to jump from the path of the fireball. Leaping up to higher ground via a tall spruce tree.
"Hold on. I think I've got an idea," August said.
"I see it too,"
From their higher vantage point, they could see a long pink scar on the back of the wyverns neck. Invisible to the eye below. Haren positioned himself on the branch and jumped forward when the creature turned its back. Using the force of his fall, his sword sunk to the hilt in the scarred area. The wyvern snarled and thrashed to throw Haren off. His hands, slick with sweat weren't able to keep hold of the sword and he was thrown across the snowy ground. The wyvern let out a flurry of small fireballs in Harens direction.
