"Hello, mother."
"Elise?" The gray haired woman took a step forward and peered closely at the black haired princess," It is you!" A smile broke out on her face," it's been so long since I've seen you."
"Yes, it has. Have you been well, mother?" The princess asked.
"I have," she turned to the boys," are these the ones you spoke about?"
"Yes ma'am," Elise nodded," I'm sorry I can't stay. I have matters to attend to, but you can finish the paperwork alright. Until next time."
The princess bowed and stepped back through the portal. It closed behind her.
"Now then," the woman's white eyes turned back to the boys," let's get you three settled."
She beckoned them over to her desk and handed each of them a scroll and quill.
"Please fill in what you can and sign at the bottom."
Haren read over the scroll and found that it was like a quiz on what they knew of magic. He filled in the boxes that applied to him and signed the scroll about the same time Silver and August finished theirs.
"Wonderful, thank you." The woman took the scrolls and glanced over them," oh. I see. Well then, I think I'll place you in gray dorm. Uniforms will be waiting for you in your room." She said," now then, before I can send you off, we need to assign you familiars."
The woman stood and led the boys out of the office, down a winding staircase, and over to a large, wooden door with a seven petal flower carved into it.
She opened the door to reveal a small room with a magic circle carved in the stone floor. In the middle of the circle was a small pedestal holding a small white pillow. Atop the pillow sat a crystal ball.
"Place your hands on the crystal ball and send mana through it. it will summon your familiar as well as measure your mana affinity." The woman explained," once a familiar is summoned I will instruct you on how to complete the binding ceremony."
"I'll go first," Silver stepped into the circle and placed a hand on the crystal. After a moment, a fiery red began swirling around inside the crystal and the circle lit up in a similar color. Not long after, the circle and the ball dimmed and a small soot gray owl no bigger than an apple sat perched on the ball. It chirped happily as it hopped onto Silvers hand.
"Fire affinity it seems," the woman muttered," now, give it a name to complete the binding," she instructed.
"Fila," Silver said.
The moment he spoke the name, a white collar appeared around the small neck of the bird. It chirped happily and flew up to perch itself on Silvers shoulder.
"I guess I'm next," August stepped forward and went through the same process as Silver. For him, the circle and ball flowed green, and a plum colored raven perched on his head as he gave it the name Eleiri.
Haren was last and copied the other two. Almost immediately, the crystal went black; the circle barely lit before something nowhere near as small as the other two familiars appeared in front of him. A coal black wolf sat in front of him. It's violet eyes gazed patiently at him.
"Finish the binding and give it a name."
"Rala." The wolf nodded approvingly as a white collar appeared around its neck.
"Wonderfully done, gentlemen. Now, Felix will show you to your dorm." The woman said. As she did, a large bird like an eagle flew down from somewhere above them and perched on her arm.
