Chapter 38

~ Silver ~

"What are you hiding?" Haren Said. He was glaring at the blonde girl.

"What is he thinking?" Silver wondered. That's when he noticed what Haren was talking about.

Hidden under the girls cloak was an odd shaped bundle covered by a black cloth. He couldn't tell what it was.

"I-I don't know what you're talking about." The girl stuttered.

"Don't think you can hide it. I smell it." Haren growled

Silver stood up and walked over to the girl. She took a step backwards; the black bundle slipped from her hands. It hit the ground with a metallic clang.

Haren picked it up and showed Silver what was hidden under the cloth. A black dagger with a skull pattern carved on the hilt.

"Where did you get this?"

The girls eyes went wide,"I didn't know what it was when they gave it to me I swear!"

"Someone gave this to you?"

"Yes. Some men in white masks. They told me to give it to the headmistress at the academy."

"She could be lying," Silver Said.

"Maybe," Haren thought for a moment," either way, someone owns this dagger." Haren looked at the girl," do you remember where these masked people were?"

The girl nodded," they said they'd wait for me in an abandoned house outside of town."

"You're going?" Silver asked.

"Rala, stay here." Haren nodded," are you?"

"Obviously."

"August, let the headmistress know about this and make sure Sylviana and Elviya get back safe. We'll come back later." Haren ordered.

"What are you going to do?" Elviya asked.

"Don't worry about it," Haren smiled. He turned to the girl," show us this place you mentioned."

"Sure. It's just outside the forest. That way." She pointed a little to the right.

"Alright, Silver lets go."

"Be careful!" Sylviana called after them as they made their way into the forest.

"Silver, you'll be support if there's a fight," Haren looked back to the girl," if you're telling the truth about this, we'll protect you. I think you know what will happen if you're not."

"I promise you I'm not lying," the girl said," I have no reason to."

"Why not?"

"Those men took Luna, my familiar, and they said they'd kill her if I didn't do what they asked."

"Alright."

Silver followed Haren swiftly through the thicket of trees. More than once, the girl he was pushing in front of him tripped over a rock or a root.

"Have you ever been in a forest before?" Silver sighed after pulling her to her feet for what must have been the twelfth time.

"I have too!" She whined," it's hard to watch where I'm going when you're pushing me."

"Then walk faster."

"You two, be quiet, now!" Haren hissed the order and dropped to the ground.

Silver did the same and the girl followed close behind.

"What? Did you find it?" Silver whispered when he got close enough to Haren.

"There are two guards outside. I smell four inside in the front room and five in the back. There's also some kind of fox with the five in the back room." Haren said.
