~Haren~
He spent most of his Friday off sparing with August and Silver. When lunchtime came around, they spent it in the library with Elviya and Sylviana. After dinner, Elviya went with Sylviana to help move her things out of orange dorm. Meanwhile, Haren, August, and Silver headed back to gray dorm to get ready for bed. They'd had a long day and were all pretty tired.
About an hour after he'd gone to bed, Haren heard the sound of Elviya and Sylviana's muffled giggles down in the commons.
"If they're trying to be quiet, they're not doing a very good job," He thought as he listened to them clomp up the girls' stairs.
"Master, can't you sleep?" Rala asked quietly from the foot of the bed.
Haren sat up. Rala's dim violet eyes gazed softly at him. He reached down and pulled his watch from his shirt pocket. flipping it open, it read 11:22.
"You up for a little walk?" He pulled his uniform coat on over his nightshirt and slid quietly out of bed.
"Of course," Rala replied, hopping down to follow him.
Together, they quietly crept through the commons and out into the hall.
Most of the lanterns were covered, but there was enough light to see as he made his way through the halls and down to Naomis' classroom. Heath was sitting outside the door.
"I figured you'd come tonight." The fox said," The headmistress informed us of everything. Please come in."
"Thanks, Heath." Haren gave the fox a pat on the head and opened the door.
"Of course," Heath closed the door behind them.
"Master, I thought you wanted a walk," Rala said," Why are we in miss Naomis' room?"
"I said walk, but I really just needed to blow off some steam," Haren explained, walking over to the central part of the room. There weren't as many pillars and more space for what he wanted. Heath and Rala laid down close by to watch.
Taking a deep, steady breath, Haren raised his hands and summoned ShadowBlight. It had been a long time since he'd last had to use it, but it still felt familiar in his hands. The weight was perfectly balanced, and the blade without a crack or dent.
He tossed the sword between his hands a few times and took a swing with his right. A slight wind whistled past the blade as the sword cut through the air. Satisfied with the performance of the blade, he began going through the motions of a mock battle.
"Four enemies with swords," He decided as he began running the situation in his head.
He began in a face-off and two of the enemies charged at him from the left and right. Haren dodged and cut them down, leaving the last two. They charged together, and again, Haren dodged and finished them.
"Wow Master, you're good at that!" Rala exclaimed.
"I've been practicing since I was young," Haren replied, staring down at his sword. Even battles he wasn't really fighting brought the stench of iron to his nose.
As he continued to focus his gaze on the sword, a soft, gray light began pulsing along the edges of the blade.
"Haren! You can focus mana into objects?" Heath gasped.
"What?" Haren looked to the fox and back at his sword now cloaked in a steady black light," I wasn't really trying to."
"Mana reacts to thoughts. Even with an invocation, a spell will fail without proper intent." Rala quoted from their last magic theory class.
