~ Nephinae ~
Everything hurst. That was my first thought. My second was that I wasn't dead. Strange how that worked.
"Are you awake now?" Hold on. I'd recognize that irritated voice anywhere.
"S-silver?" Ow. It even hurts to talk. My lungs feel like they're on fire. I taste salt.
"How can you be sure it's really me?" He replied.
I guess he was carrying me; I felt something more solid underneath me now.
It took a bit of effort, but I managed to pry my eyes open. In front of me was a very blurry Silver.
"Because if you were one of those monsters we wouldn't be having this conversation."
"True."
"How do you know it's me?" I asked.
"Your familiars were pretty insistant it was you, and shadow wolves can't mimic summoned creatures."
"Is that so?" I sighed and closed my eyes.
Silver put a hand on my shoulder," Hey, you need to stay awake for a while," he said, gently brushing the hair from my face," Think you can do that?"
"Sure."
"Good." His smile quickly vanished as he pulled his sword on a shadowy figure stepping out of the trees.
"Hey. Watch where you point that." the voice sounded like Haren.
"Prove your identity." Silver said.
"Shadowblight." following the words was a metalic sound as the figure dropped something on the ground.
Silver slid it closer to himself with his foot. After examening it for a few moments, he lowered his sword with a sigh.
"You verified it's me yet?" Silver asked, sitting down by me.
Haren stepped forward and picked a black sword up off the ground. It dissapeared in a small puff of smoke," You smell like you," he nodded.
"Where's August?"
"sepparated. He'll find his way," Haren walked over," care to explain why Nephi's here?" His expression, well, what I could see of it, said anger, but his voice said worry.
"I came looking for you," I said," I'm sorry. You're probably mad, but I was really worried about you."
His sigh sounded exhausted," At least you're ok."
"You don't sound ok," a light suddenly illuminated a small area around us. With it, I could see how beaten up Silver looked. His clothes were torn all over and stained with what looked like blood. His step seemed lopsided as he moved over to Haren. The redhead looked about the same. Clothes muddied, bloodied, and torn.
"It's nothing," Haren answered, sitting down slowly. Now that he was closer, I could tell that the sound of his breathing seemed...off. He was holding his side.
"Last time you said that, you almost died," Silver retorted," Now let me see."
"fine." Haren moved his hands to reveal a deep gash on his side. Unlike all the other cuts and scratches, that one was still bleeding.
"See? This is what I'm talking about," Silver sighed.
"It's not that bad."
"I beg to differ, Master." Rala said," You nearly passed out."
"But I didn't."
"Alright you two, settle down," Silver huffed," We need to hurry up and find the rest of the shadow wolves. There's still time before morning, but not much."
