Chapter 5 – Bothered

I open my front door and kick of my wallabies, while slamming the door shut. I walk into the kitchen, 4.20 pm already that girl wasted my time, at least my mum aint hear though. I look in the fridge for something to eat. I see jollof rice, fried rice even white rice.

“Its not everyday rice.” I mumbled to myself as I closed the fridge, I looked in the cupboards to see if anything edible was there. Gari beans, pounded yam powder, fufu powder, amala powder famm my hunger is not key. I scan across the cupboard a little longer in hope of finding a snack at least. Crisps, I guess that’ll do.

I took two packets of walkers crisps and a lucozade and headed upstairs to my room. I honestly didn’t want to see my mum that is why I always tried to get home quickly and lock myself in my room. I decided to start on my homework because I had nothing better to do. I was at it for a good forty five minutes till my phone vibrated.

I picked it up it was Ruth’s message, I really didn’t want to read it, but I did anyway. Seems like wherever I go trouble and drama follow and I really don’t have time for this. Apparently Samantha’s rats are starting on social medias making a scene. I actually didn’t care. I messaged Ruth back saying; leave them to do what they want fam IDC its childish.

I didn’t touch my phone for the rest of the evening because I knew I would do something stupid. I’m usually one to retaliate, but I just calmed myself down and reminded myself that being excluded was not an option.

My mum got home at like 9 o’clock didn’t even call me to tell me she was coming home late and I know she has a nine to five job. I didn’t question her though, I just left her to do her.

“Esther, I know you heard me come in so you can’t greet me?”

“Hello mother,”

“What have you been doing before I came darling.

“My homework.”

“Oh that’s lovely dear.” Her voice was all weird like, she was overly nice.

“Mmm yeah.”

“I’ll be going now Rachel have a wonderful rest of your evening.” A male voice said. I came downstairs to see because that was definitely not my dad.

“Yeah bye.” I say. He just stared at me like he just saw a ghost.

“You have a daughter Rachel?”

“Yeah I do Mark.”

“She is very beautiful just like you Rachel.” I just gave him a look of disgust.

“My names Mark its nice to meet you.” He put his hand out as if I were to shake it. I just looked at it.

“I have established that Mark.” I said as I looked him up and down. I understand my mother gets lonely sometimes, but she got me!

“Esther be nice.” I just gave her a straight face, I was not impressed.

“I thought you were going!” I directed at Mark, he just stood there looking stupid. After a while he took the stupid look off his face and said.

“Ahh, ermm yeah,” but before he left he was staring at me funny I did not like this guy. Next thing you know he’s kissing my mum. Naa I just sighed and walked upstairs, I knew he was no good for her.

I just went back upstairs to my room, shut the door and blasted my music aloud this is how I let my feelings ear out. I just seethe inside, but you wouldn’t know though. I don’t even know why I am so bothered about my mum, I never really was after dad left us because she was always so depressed and sad and she’d let it out by insulting me and that. You get used to it eventually, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t still hurt.

At least she was happy I guess.
