My heart was beating out of my chest.
My muscles were aching.
My breathing was rapid and uneven.
A thin line of sweat lined my forehead.
I kept running.
So close.
So very close.
Suddenly, my phone began ringing.
"Hello?" I said into the device.
"Where the hell are you?" Vivian barked.
"I'm out for a run," I said simply, "At the park."
"Oh," she said quietly, "Well hurry up, we've got school in thirty minutes."
I cut the call and pushed my headphones back on. I put my phone into my pocket and continued jogging around the park. When I finished my fifth lap, I jogged home. I shuffled upstairs, without letting Vivian know that I was home, and got into the shower.
I had a plan in mind this week, and I was hell-bent on putting it into action. This would be the last week I attended Lakewood High, the last that I would have to hear Riley's name. This would all be over this week.
I got out of the shower and dried myself. I walked to my closet with my towel wrapped around my body and picked out some clothes. I didn't bother taking my time. Black skinny jeans, a black tank top and black Vans would be enough. I slipped into my clothes and quickly braided my long hair.
"Hurry up, idiot!" Vivian yelled from downstairs as I jogged downstairs. Vivian looked taken aback by my appearance as she set her eyes onto me.
"What's wrong?" I asked, looking down at my outfit.
"You look..." Vivian said hesitantly, "The same as before."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No offence," Vivian raised her hands, "Just that your back to wearing completely black."
That wasn't the only thing that was back to normal.
"Yeah," I shrugged, swinging my backpack onto my back, "Let's go."
Vivian shrugged and grabbed the keys to her Landcruiser.
...
My pencil hovered over my page, but I had no intention of writing anything.
I was currently in Maths, watching Riley. To anyone who didn't know about my mission, which would be literally everyone, I would look like one of those creepy girls that wanted to hook up with him.
If only they knew.
Riley had caught my gaze a few times but looked away. I held his gaze though, challenging him, daring him, showing him that I knew about his secret.
Around thirty minutes into the lesson, Riley said something to the teacher discreetly, to which she nodded, and Riley walked towards the door. Before he did, he sent a glance my way, and I glared back. Needless to say, he quickly looked back to the door and walked out.
I knew that there was no way that the teacher was going to let me go out of the classroom, she had this policy that only one person was allowed of the classroom at a time. I would know. I once went to the 'bathroom' (I was updating the headquarters on my little to no progress with the case), and a guy asked if he could go to the toilet. I didn't come back for quite a while, and when I did, the poor kid had already wet his pants.
