Chapter twelve: New years wish

As it became new years-Sarina didn't understand the big fuss about it. Unlike Kankuro and Temari who were both pumped for it Sarina just sat in the living room as she heard the two of them go back and forth. She was hearing them tell stories of past new years. It wasn't until Gaara came back from going to the store with his father that she got up and had an excuse to finally leave the two be.

Sarina helped with placing everything away before she was stopped by Gaara. She looked to him curiously

"Sarina, I'm going to warn you now. Sasuke and his brother will be over later since they usually end up spending new years eve with us." Gaara stated seriously

She stiffened and nodded her head. "I...I'll be okay right?"

"Yeah, I talked with Sasuke and he'll make sure his brother doesn't try anything strange."

She sighed and nodded her head. "Okay."

"Gaara, Itachi and Sasuke are here." Temari said loudly

Gaara placed a hand on the top of Sarina's head. "C'mon, let's say hi to Sasuke."

She nodded her head slightly before the two of them left to the living room. Sasuke went up to the two of them and he shook hands with Gaara before he went up to Sarina and hugged her. "How have things been Sarina?"

"I-I've been okay here so far. Nightmares get to me here and there though." she said nervously

"I bet...you've had a lot happen to you. So of course you'll have hard time sleeping." Sasuke said as he placed a hand on her shoulder

She nodded her head. "I guess. So just what do you do around new years?"

Sasuke sighed and looked to Gaara. "Was she like this for Yule as well?" Sasuke asked

"Yeah-she's very uneducated in traditions. So just take things slow with her." Gaara commented

"Wait Sasuke get away from that woman for a moment." Itachi said from behind him.

Sasuke turned himself around and glared at his brother. "Not a chance! You aren't hurting Sarina! She's become my friend and I won't have her go through that same suffering she went through before!"

"So you're going to protect her huh? Do I have to remind you what happens when you disobey me Sasuke?" Itachi asked seriously

Sarina didn't like Itachi's tone and she hid herself behind Sasuke placing her head against his back as she held onto the back of his jacket. Sasuke glared at his brother. "And I'll tell mother you've been hitting me! Then let's see how well that'll go over with our parents! No wonder you haven't gotten a girlfriend yet!" Sasuke hissed out annoyed

Gaara sighed and went between the two siblings. "Please don't argue here-you're scaring Sarina. Itachi if you don't like that my parents have taken in the youngest of the Sanchez family you can leave and we will make sure that Sasuke is home at a reasonable hour." Gaara said seriously

Sasuke looked behind him to Sarina to see her shivering in fear behind him. He turned around and hugged her tightly as he tried to calm her down. "I'm sorry-I didn't mean to scare you."

"Y-You didn't scare me. Y-Your brother does though."

Sasuke sighed. "I know...I'll do what I can to keep him from you."

She nodded her head as she looked up at him. "O-okay."

Itachi narrowed his eyes at Sasuke before he left without a word. Once the eldest Uchiha left Gaara let his parents know what happened before Sasuke and Sarina played a game together on the TV with Temari and Kankuro. Sarina got closer to Sasuke as a friend as the night went on. As it became close to midnight the lot of them walked off to the middle of the town where they sat on a bench to watch the fireworks. Sarina sat between Gaara and Sasuke as the fireworks began. She jumped a bit at first not realizing how loud they were. As it turned to be midnight Temari hugged her family and kissed each one of them and even kissed Sarina on the cheek as Kankuro did the same.

Gaara and Sasuke were both in an awkward situation but chose to kiss either one of Sarina's cheeks at the same time as they were blushing deep red.

"Happy new years Sarina." They said in unison.
