Chapter 25: A Dark Truth

Vanitas yelled as he sliced a Soldier Heartless as he was catching his breath. He and Sienna managed to make it to her house, and he was making sure no heartless got in. Although, it's been about twenty minutes when they got there. It shouldn't take that long just to get one rapier. Unless...she's getting something else.

'What's taking her so long? I can't keep these Heartless back for long!' He thought as he kept his grip around Void Gear. However, he was unaware a Neoshadow was about to attack him from behind, but a rapier got stabbed into it as he turned around.

"About time you got back." He said. He then noticed a small brown satchel on Sienna's side. "What's that?"

"Whether anything bad happens...my parents told me to bring these with me." She opened the satchel and showed Vanitas what was inside of it, and he gasped, yet had a small smile on her face.

"Those are a lot of remedies." He said impressed as Sienna buttoned the satchel back up.

"Well, my grandparents were remedy makers." She said.

"I see. But c'mon. We need to keep moving." He said as he pointed to where the explosion was. She nodded her head and she gripped her rapier as they both ran off.

Minutes later, they both found themselves by the outskirts of the town. When they both looked around, they noticed some heartless were around, yet not a lot.

"They must've been through here." Vanitas sighed with relief a little. "Meaning, May's still alive.."

"Vanitas." He looked back at Sienna who had her arms crossed. "If it's okay for you to tell me; Who's May?"

Vanitas gasped a little at that question. But regardless, he knew he would have to answer that one way or another. He then spoke.

"Well, She's a...close friend of mine." He answered.

"And you're still looking for her?" Sienna asked and Vanitas nodded his head.

"But Kuro mentioned this...Organization. Are you part of it?" She asked.

"..." Vanitas wasn't sure how to answer that question, even when it's a yes or no question. Considering what all he's done...he wasn't sure.

"...Depends." He said. "What I'm doing right now...no doubt Kuro told Xehanort about me.."

"This 'Xehanort'...he's not a good person, is he?" She asked.

"...Yeah." He said. "I thought he passed on...but it looks like he's not done yet."

"If you don't want to be part of his Organization, why don't you leave?" She asked.

"It's not easy to just walk out the door. Mayonaka, she left...barely alive."

"And you're scared you won't make it?"

"No. There's a reason why I stayed behind. It doesn't involve leaving. I chose to stay...because-" They both heard a small crack on the ground, and they saw it was radiating darkness.

"Get ready!" Vanitas exclaimed as he brought out his keyblade as Sienna took out her Rapier. What stepped out of the crack...was a darkside heartless...but it was bigger than before. Sienna's eyes widened as she took a step back, until Vanitas put his hand on her shoulder as she looked at him.

"If you believe in the Light of Hope...that hope will come to you." He said to her. She stared at him for a moment, before she nodded her head determinedly.

"I'm ready, Van." She said as him and she got into her stance. "Bring it on!"

They both ran at the heartless as it got ready to punch the ground.
