"I can't believe we made it!" I announce and spin around. "We're finally here!" I turn to Jexton and he smiles at me with all of his teeth. "Woo!" he yells and jumps around. "H-how are we gonna do this?" I ask and sigh. "Oh. We never really went over that." Jexton says and sits on a rock. I sit on the ground next to him and hold my head with my hands.

"Well, we could just go in there and see what we can do." Jexton suggests and I look up at him. He shrugs and I nod. "Guess it's worth a try." I say and pull my bag off of my shoulders. I dig through it until I find my father's letter. I reread it and turn it over for any extra clues; but there are none.

We stand and begin to walk toward the building. "I'm surprised we actually made it here without getting lost." I say and Jexton nods. "I just don't know what we have to do," he says, sighing. "how are we gonna do this?" I shrug and shake my head.

"Well, I don't know much about this," I say and wave my arms in the air for emphasis. "but I do know that there's a bacterial that created it and we have the chemical to destroy it." Jexton stops walking and looks at me. "What kind of chemical?" he asks and I lift one shoulder in the air. "I don't know, but if the bacteria has gotten out and around the building, then our only chance is to get rid of the building."

"What do you mean? Like blow it up?"

"Whatever it takes." I clench the pendant of my necklace and begin walking again.

When we arrive at the front doors of the building, I draw in a deep breath of air and turn to Jexton, smiling. "We made it."  I repeat and he nods.

Next thing I know, I feel hands tighten around my mouth. I gasp and reach out to Jexton, but he backs away, shaking his head. "Told you we'd be here before you." a familiar voice says and I can tell he's smiling. I squirm and scream, but the man only holds on tighter. "Now, what was it you were going to do here?" the man asks and laughs.

"Jexton's such a good kid, isn't he Farrah?" the man asks and I realize that it's Jexton's father. He loosens his grip a bit, but not enough for me to breathe properly. I stare at Jexton with watery eyes and he gives me something just shy of a sympathetic look. His mouth is smiling, but his eyes are apologetic. I'm not sure how he can just stand there and watch me beg for mercy as his father slowly suffocates me to death.

I look around and see the Consilium soldiers standing guard. "Have you heard the good news?" Jexton asks with a smile. "They surrendered! The CDC is ours now!"

"Haven't you anything to say?" Jexton's father asks into my ear and uncovers my mouth but keeps a tight grip across my collar bones. "Why?" I ask and Jexton shrugs. "Consilium citizens rule now. We can do without people like you." he says and I spit at him. "I should have know I couldn't trust you!" I scream and he laughs. "The first time was enough and you had me believing things were different!"

"No, no, no, Farrah. See, that's what I do. It's what I have been doing. This world doesn't need people like you. I knew it from the start that you weren't pure like us."

"Pure?" I scream and he nods.

"Do you not know what they did to us? Those Germans? And your bastard father who tried to fight back something that he was in on all along behind our backs?" Jexton says, and his father agrees.

"Well, I hope you die a long, slow, painful death you son of a bitch! I hope this disease rips you from the inside out and. . ." I yell, but Jexton's father covers my mouth with his hand as Jexton smiles and shakes his head. He lifts up the sleeve of his t-shirt and turns his body so that I can see the dot on his upper arm.

"Prevention shot." he says and I would be gaping is Jexton's father's dirty hand wasn't stopping me. I begin to cry harder and Jexton takes a step toward me.

He reaches under his father's arm and grabs my necklace by the pendant, yanking it hard so that the chain snaps and the necklace falls into his hand. He examines it for a few moments before throwing it on the ground. The glass shatters and I scream into Jexton's father's hand. Jexton looks up at his father and he nods, then the man looks down and stomps on the necklace. My necklace. The last thing I have of my father. The tears pour out of my eyes and I cannot help the muffled screaming. Everyone around me laughs as I break down.

Just then, a gunshot sounds and I am released from the tight grip of Jexton's father. I spin around and look for somebody, but there is nobody. Only Jexton's father lying lifeless on the ground with a gunshot wound in his head. Every single one of the Consilium soldiers raise their guns simultaneously and Jexton runs over to me, taking me in the way his father had just moments before.

"What the hell?" Jexton screams and looks around. He throws me to one of the soldiers and they hold me they way the other two had. Jexton kneels by his newly deceased father and cries. He screams out into the open and curses multiple times. Another gunshot is heard and I am once again released from my third hostage. I turn around and find the soldier lifeless with a gunshot wound to his head. The other soldiers look around, scared, and I'm scared, too.
