Titanic 2: Electric Boogaloo

Chapter 3

Jack and David boarded the large vessel. It wasn't the sub that David mentioned, the sub was apart of this ship. The ship was a massive research vessel, the Akademik Mstislav Keldysh. Jack and David stood at the side of the ship as it took off. "This is the ship that my team and I have been using to visit and search the Titanic wreck," said David, "As did my father before me." "He visited the shipwreck too?" asked Jack. "He sure did," said David. "He found all sorts of stuff. We have them on board. Would you like me to show you?" "Sure," said Jack.

When they went deck, Jack was stunned by what he saw. It looked almost nothing like Titanic. Yes, there were plenty of rooms for living in while aboard the ship, but there was also much complex looking machinery with buttons everywhere and little windows with moving pictures on them. "The artifacts are this way," David said, "I'll also introduce you to the crew." The next room that they walked into had even more of the weird machines as well as workers everywhere. They were all positioned in front of them, and were wearing strange looking things on their heads. They looked like giant earmuffs. Jack tried to fiddle with some of the machinery but one of the workers slapped his hand away. Soon after, a large man with glasses and a medium length grey beard greeted Jack and David.

"Welcome back, David," he said, shaking David's hand. "Thanks Lewis," David replied. Lewis looked over at Jack, his eyes lit up when he saw him. "So you're the legendary Ice Boy!" he said. "Ice Boy?" Jack asked. "That's what everyone's been referring to you as ever since we found you," said David, "You're quite the celebrity now." "Lewis Bodine," Lewis introduced himself, shaking Jack's hand. "Jack Dawson," Jack said. This also surprised Lewis. "So you do exist!" he exclaimed. "I'm sorry?" Jack asked, not quite understanding. "Well about 20 years ago," said Lewis, "we had this old lady who was on Titanic who talked about her experiences, and she knew you. But there's no record of you, so I thought she might have been crazy and made you up." "What was her name?" asked Jack. "Her name was Rose," said Lewis. Jack was shocked. "Rose came here?!" he said. "What for?" "I'll show you," said David.

He lead Jack to another room with artifacts from the the Titanic shipwreck. There were all sorts of things. Silverware, jewelry, clothes, etc. But what really caught Jack's eye was a familiar looking nude drawing of a girl with long flowing hair and a blue heart shaped necklace around her neck. "I remember when I drew that," Jack said, a tear running down his face. "She was so beautiful." "She was my great grandmother," said David. "My dad brought her here along with her granddaughter, who ended up being my mother. He was looking for any information about where this might be." David pointed to the necklace in the picture. "The Heart of the Sea, her favorite necklace," said Jack. "He really wanted to find it," said David. "Did he ever?" asked Jack. "No," said David. "he retired from the expedition shortly after hearing her story. I don't know why. He never told me. But now we're looking for it."

Suddenly, Jack heard a sound that sounded like a motor running. But it was very faint and only lasted a second. "What was that?" he asked. "That was my phone," David held up his phone, but it looked nothing like a telephone at all. It was about the size of a checkbook, only had one button on the bottom, and had one very large window like on the machines Jack saw earlier. "That's a telephone?" he asked. "Yeah, they've made phones smaller now and they can do more," said David, "Now we can get messages that show up on the screen." He looked at his phone. "Lewis says that the sub will be taking off to visit the shipwreck. Wanna come?" "Yeah," said Jack. While he had been desperately, trying to suppress the memory of the Titanic sinking, he couldn't help but be curious as to what it looked like now. So he and David set off for the sub to visit the wreck.
