It was the day after my little trip to Castle Rock and I was sat on my bed listening to my best friend Donna go on and on about how amazing her boyfriend was.I sighed and fell backwards, my head hitting the pillow.
"Hey, what's up?" She asked.
I sighed again. Even louder.
"Oh no, somethings wrong." She started. "Is it because his best friend wants to ask you on a date?"
I shot upright, a panicked look on my face. She slammed her hands over her mouth quickly, before removing them.
"Or doesn't. I mean, who knows what Steven's thinking right?" She said with a slight giggle.
I rolled my eyes as she quickly sat down and grabbed my hands.
"Oh no you stay with me. He's such a nice guy, just like my Mark. And don't you think it will be great? Us as best friends dating two best friends?"
I raised my eyebrow at her.
"Oh please give him a shot. He's racing tonight and I know he'll totally dig it if you were there watching."
"Racing?" I asked confused.
"Yeah Steven and Mark totally drag race, like all the time! It's so exciting!" She squealed, gripping my hands tight.
I broke them free and stood up, facing her.
"Yeah and totally illegal Donna!" I tried yelling in a hushed tone so my parents wouldn't hear.
She looked down slightly." That's the thrilling part."
I raised my hands at her.
"Well I for one will not be going!"
She jumped up and grabbed my hands again.
"Oh please do!" She begged. "We won't stay there long and I promise I'll stay right by your side."
I shook my head again.
Not going to happen.
She pouted at me and starts batting her eyelids.
I sighed.
"What would I even tell my parents?"
"Tell them we're going to the drive in then you're staying at mine."
I leant my head back in frustration.
"Oh come on please! Steven is so into you and I think you'd be great together!"
She just wasn't going to stop. I raised my arms, brushing her away.
"Fine fine I'll go!"
She squealed again, jumping up and down with excitement before rushing to my wardrobe and flicking through. I assumed she was finding me something to wear, which helped because I personally had no clue.
She pulled out a black strapless dress with white polka dots that came just below my knees. I sighed and took it from her excited face before heading into my bathroom.
After I was showered and changed she zipped me up and I slipped on my red kitten heels before we headed off to her place. My parents fell hook, line and sinker to her story of the drive in then staying at hers. How could she lie like that? I've never told a lie and wouldn't even know where to start?
She got changed into a strapless red dress with white polka dots and we were soon doing each other's makeup, bright red lips went perfectly.
Her mum soon appeared in the doorway.
"The men are here for you darlings."
"Thank you mummy." Donna said as she stood my hand and pulled me down the stairs.
We said goodbye to her parents as we walked out to the red Ford convertible where Mark and Steven were waiting. Steven climbed from the front and held the back foot open for me as he offered me his hand getting in. I smiled, thanking him as we were soon off. Mark and Donna were giggling and chatting quietly to themselves so I slowly turned to Steven.
"So you're racing tonight?" I asked quietly.
He nodded before I was completely shocked by his following actions. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a packet of cigarettes! He lit his own before handing two in front. Mark and Donna both took one and lit theirs!
"Donna!" I snapped. "What are you doing with one of them?!"
Donna turned to face me in her seat.
"Calm down Shell! They're just cigarettes, everyone's smoking them nowadays."
I sat back in my seat in slight shock as I realised Donna was a completely different person when she was away from her parents. Steven offered me one but I shook my head.
"Oh come on babe, they won't hurt you." He pushed, waving one in front of my face.
"I said no."
He shrugged it off, pulling a face and put the cigarette back in his packet. I turned and looked out the window as I slowly found myself regretting agreeing to come on this trip.
When we finally pulled up the place was filled with drunk teenagers and flash cars. I was horrified! I felt Donna grip onto my arm as she leant to my ear.
"Just remember, you get to be on Steven's arm. You're his little prize." She said giggling as Mark handed her a drink of something that smelt wrong.
She accepted it and latched to him as he led her away. So much for staying with me. I felt an arm sling around my neck and I jumped to see Steven standing there, he now had a beer in his hand and another cigarette hanging from his lips. I grimaced in disgust. How was he such a polite guy in the View but here? He was a pig!
I quickly shook his arm off and he moaned loudly.
"Come on baby! Don't tell me you're actually a proper View girl?"
I stepped back, looking at him confused. He stepped forward, raising his arms at me.
"Donna said you were lots of fun! Don't tell me she lied?" He asked, almost yelling.
"My god.." He paused. "You're actually a proper good girl aren't you?"
Before I could answer I heard a voice behind me.
"Trouble in paradise aye Steve?"
I turned and to my surprise saw Ace and his friends walking over. I turned back to Steven as he quickly yanked me to his side, holding me in place by a tight grip to my waist. I pulled a face in disgust as I leant away from him.
"Course not Ace. My girls never been happier to be here and watch me make you eat the dirt from my car!" Steven snapped back.
I looked up and saw Ace stare at me, his head tilted slightly.
"Are you his girl?" He asked, in that monotone voice.
"Course she is." Steven answered quickly. "So you can keep your hands off yeah?" He said sternly, keeping me held close to him.
"I wasn't asking you Stevie." He said sarcastically as the other boys jeered him on.
"Are you his girl?" Ace asked again, staring deep at me.
I tried to focus on his but my face clearly showed disgust from Steven's beer smelling breath right next to my face. Ace smirked at me and looked at Steven.
"I take the silence as her answer." He said.
The other boys laughed around Ace as Steven's grip tightened.
"She will be my girl! Not that that's any of your business Merrill." Steven said sternly.
Ace's smirk vanished as he handed the guy with the cut eye his drink and stepped forward to Steven. Before either of us could react Ace had gripped Steven's shirt collar as he yanked him up till his face was inches away. Luckily for me this had caused Steven to let go of me and I quickly stepped away.
"You better watch your fucking mouth Steven." Ace growled. "Or it won't be just your car that needs fixing after tonight."
