Dear readers - I feel the need to say that the comment that Demi makes about blondes in this chapter is neither my nor her opinion so please don't be offended. She only says/thinks that because she's using any way she can think of to attack Elliana.

Elliana

Consort Emilia's words rang stayed in my mind as I returned to my room. As I entered the doorway, I felt my head spin harshly. Charlene immediately appeared by my side. "Sister!"

"I'm alright." I gritted my teeth and steadied myself.

She hesitated. "Is it the curse?"

"I don't know what happened. I was just walking-" I scanned myself. "I'm not injured or anything..."

"Perhaps it is the mate bond."

"But I've never felt anything like this bef-"

"I've done some reading. The vampire mate bond is only consolidated after you meet. Although I'm not sure what you having a headache would mean..." she began to walk away. "I'll go check the book."

Suddenly, I felt a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. I reached out and grabbed Lena's arm. "She's in trouble." I couldn't explain how I knew or why I was so sure. Then I felt a sharp pain in my stomach and gasped. "I have to go. Cover for me."

"What?!" I heard my sister exclaim in concern, but I had already apparated out of the room.

I could not comprehend how I just knew where to go, or what to do, but I trusted my instincts and landed in a dark forest on the mountaintops. I immediately scanned the area. My heart dropped into my chest when I spotted a figure lying unconscious underneath a pine tree. The familiar form of my mate greeted me as I rushed over to her.

"Wake up." She was breathing, but shallowly. I gently shook her shoulder. It was then that I noticed the redness pooling in the dirt surrounding her. I gasped in horror and immediately attempted to locate the source.

I felt the sharp stabbing pain in my stomach again. Upon instinct again, I immediately unbuttoned her cloak and noticed the large pool of blood soaking her undershirt. I gingerly lifted her shirt up. She let out an audible groan when my hands made contact with her skin, but did not open her eyes. I inhaled sharply as well when the tingles shot up my hand.

I closed my eyes and summoned my energy, forming a blue ball of light in my hand. "Visana." Murmuring the healing spell, I held my hand to her wound and watched it seal slowly. After it had completely sealed, I extinguished the blue glow. I used the snow surrounding us to clean off my hand before wetting my handkerchief and wiping the blood off of my mate's torso the best that I could.

I pulled her shirt back down and admired her unconscious form. She was definitely stunning, with her long, wavy hair cascading around her shoulders. Her face was more pale than usual, but her facial features were relaxed. I knew that once she woke up, she would likely push me away again. I hesitated before running my fingers through her hair. She shifted ever so slightly, but still did not wake. I felt a pang of worry.

I had healed the wound, but I wasn't sure how the bodies of vampires worked. I had never encountered one in person prior to meeting my mate. I had a sudden thought and scanned the area for something sharp when I noticed something shiny by her cloak pocket. I carefully retrieved it and noticed that it was a knife with a big peridot embedded into the handle and an engraving on the blade.

DDK.

I suspected that those were her initials. I didn't actually know her name. The woman she was with the other day said it once, but with my condition acting up, I did not quite hear it.
