Demi
After Elliana left that day, I hadn't seen her. I absolutely hated admitting this, but I missed her presence. Despite my hatred towards the Caelestis royals, her smile never failed to brighten my spirits, and her mere presence brought on waves of serenity that I could not explain.
I knew I couldn't go looking for her. My presence in Cael would be dangerous for both her and myself. I decided to pay Ma a visit instead as she had been saying that she needed to speak to me.
When I arrived, Ma had immediately pulled me into the kitchen, when my brother was sipping on some human beverage. I glanced at it in distaste and he stuck his tongue out at me childishly.
Soon after, Anzon had disappeared off to his room. Ma sat down across from me and gave me a serious look. "I know that look." She murmured.
"What?" I asked in surprise.
"Your expression. You're either thinking about your mate or your parents." I clenched my hands tightly under the table and hoped that she wouldn't notice.
"I'm not." I denied, in a slightly elevated tone. Ma raised her hands defensively and my expression softened. "Sorry." I muttered.
"You've been spending time with the Princess." She commented. I didn't respond. "Perhaps you could inquire more about what happened from her." She added.
"What is that supposed to mean?" I asked sharply.
"I mean, ask her if she knows anything about the attacks that happen-"
"She is a Caelestis royal." I spat. "Of course she-"
"Do you really think she was personally involved in the attack? Does she seem like that to you?" She retorted.
"Regardless if she was present, she is a Caelestis. She knew it would happen."
"Maybe not." Ma stated quietly.
"What are you insinuating?" I growled.
She hesitated before responding. "Do you know how old she is? I despise the Caelestis as much as you do, Demi, but things are not always what they seem."
"What is your point?" I asked in frustration.
"I spoke with Markus a few days ago. Princess Elliana was born only 6 years prior to the attacks... Caelestis royals do not gain their powers until they are 12." I stared at her blankly as the meaning of her words sank in. "She was just a child, Demi."
She took a sip from her mug and sighed again. "You're not telling me something."
"Look-"
"What is it, Ma? No more secrets." I growled in frustration.
"Markus mentioned that she hinted that she had been hurt in some way around that time, and he thinks that it was somehow connected to the attacks." I froze and she reached for my hand. "But he is unsure as she has never elaborated on it." Ma looked down and continued softly. "Demi, I think you should talk to Elliana. The truth may be more complicated than we thought."
I pushed up from the table harshly and stormed towards the front door. I could hear Ma calling after me as I apparated to the snowy forest that I frequently hunted in. Aside from the weeks that I had lost control, or when I encountered some bastard that deserved it, I usually fed on animal blood. I leaned against the nearest tree and closed my eyes.
She was just a child.
My head began to pound painfully. Was it linked to her illness? What had happened all those years ago?
