Elliana

I don't know how long Demi and I stood there, simply holding each other in an embrace. The sun soon rose to the centre of the sky at around midday, reflecting golden bars across the snowy mountain top. I didn't recall the last time that I had felt this kind of peace.

Reading Demi's letter earlier, I had come to the realization of many things, things that I knew I had a duty to clarify before we had to part again. Admittedly, I was avoiding this conversation with my mate, as I would have to reopen painful wounds and retell a story that hadn't been spoken of in a millennia.

Demi had opened up about her past, fully aware that there would be a possibility that I would choose my family over her, but she still made the decision to tell me, and now I had to do the same. However, I did feel better about the situation, now that I knew exactly whom her target of revenge was, even if she did not know herself.

Eventually, we turned to go back to the house. Demi offered to make me lunch, but I knew that this conversation was not one that I wished to have over a meal. She turned to ascend the stairs when I blurted it out. "I have something to tell you." She studied me silently for a moment before nodding for me to follow her to her room.

We sat down on the bed silently until she spoke again. "What is it?"

I cleared my throat nervously and forced myself to speak before I lost my nerve. "Do you remember when you asked me what Markus meant when he said I had an old injury that occurred a millennia ago?" Her eyebrows rose immediately and she nodded.

I sighed and reached to pull on the strings, releasing the robe that I had on. Raising my hand in front of my chest, I muttered the counter charm to the concealment spell that my father cast on me many years ago. Demi gasped in horror as the silver, four-inch-long, crescent-shaped scar appeared on my breast.

"Baby girl..." she gasped.

"I had almost forgotten what that scar looked like." I commented.

"Who attacked you?!"

"A daemon." I inhaled slowly as she gasped. "You've asked my brother is not the heir apparent instead of me. That is because Sebastian is a monster and a dirty, rotten traitor to Cael who should've been banished a long time ago." I growled the last part venomously. Demi flinched at my tone, but she didn't comment, silently waiting for me to continue.

"The year your parents were attacked," she stiffened, "was also the year my father's coronation took place. Elder Thomas had passed on the throne months prior to the attack."

"Wait-how do you know exactly what month-"

"Let me explain, please." She nodded for me to continue.

"A year before my grandfather had abdicated, my brother fell in love with a daemon girl." Demi's jaw dropped my revelation. "But it wasn't...true love. She was using him to bring down Cael."

"You know, Sebastian wasn't always like he is now." I felt a tear slide down my face. "He was a good brother before I was six. We were best friends until he met her. I suppose that's what made the betrayal worse." I sighed and looked up to meet Demi's eyes. She watched me with intense concern.

"Her name was Alysia. My brother met her one day when we were out in the common lands."
