Hey everyone,
Once again, sorry for the late update. Volunteer exchange program stuff. I'm back next week so updates will resume normally.

I returned back to Cael the next morning, despite that fact that I really did not want to. I knew that it really wasn't an option to stay.

I wasn't angry when I walked into the royal ballroom and saw Vance and Valerie kissing. In fact, I could not care less, but the two sprang apart as if they had been shocked.

I eyed Vance warily for a moment before the both of them dropped to their knees in front of me. "Princess, I beg you to have mercy. It was a moment of w-"

I held up my hand to stop him and sighed internally. "I don't care." He looked shocked at my nonchalant tone. "Lady Valerie, will you join me in my bedchamber for a moment?"

"Your majesty, please-"

"Shut up, Vance." I rolled my eyes. "Lady Valerie, if you'll please..." She bowed and began to exit the room, walking in the direction of my bedchamber, as Vance watched on helplessly. I shot him one last glance, concealing my amusement, before exiting as well. My mate's attitude was definitely rubbing off on me.

Valerie walked stiffly as she made her way through the corridors. "You're not in trouble, you know." I called after her. She didn't appear to hear me and I sighed.

I entered my bedchamber after her and closed the door. She looked terrified. "I'm sorry."

She froze. "Whatever for, your majesty?"

"Many things. I didn't mean to scare you, I just wanted to talk. I'm not intentionally trying to steal Vance from you."

She swallowed and averted her gaze. "No, of course not, your majesty."

"Valerie, please. I don't love Vance. Nor did I have any say in our engagement." Valerie looked pained when I said engagement. "I want you two together, trust me."

"Why?" She forgot herself in the face of my admission.

"Because..." I considered how to properly answer her. "Because I know how it's like when you really love someone and you can't have them." I thought about Consort Emilia's story. I considered my own situation with my mate.

"With all due respect, your majesty, you can have anyone you wish."

"That couldn't be farther from the truth."

"Yes, you can." Valerie insisted. "If you chose another whom is of lower status, your father will be disappointed at most. If Vance and I were to be together, we would be sentenced to death." She expressed angrily.

I approached her. "Is that what you think?"

Valerie hesitated. "It's what I know."

"Very well," I sighed. "I realize that there is nothing that I can say at this point in time that will convince you otherwise, but I don't care if you continue your relationship with Vance. Just try not to kiss where anyone can see you." Without waiting for her to respond, I exited my bedchamber.

I trusted her nowhere near enough to divulge information regarding my mate so I would have to resign for now. My own priorities were beyond disorganized. I loved Demi, and that was just about the only thing that I was certain of. She was, by no doubt, one of the most important people to me.

When I was with her, I felt a calmness that I had never before experienced. I laughed, I felt, and I truly lived. I felt that I was happy to be exactly where I was with her, and nothing else mattered.
