Elliana

I felt numb as I made my way back to my room. Lena gave me a sympathetic look and I had no doubt that she had somehow overheard what had happened during the meeting. I sighed heavily and wordlessly began to change.

"Are you leaving again?"

"Yes."

"When will you be returning?" Lena watched me carefully.

"I will be gone for three weeks. I put in a request with Father prior to this meeting."

Lena went silent for a moment before walking up to me. We simply stared at each other for several moments before she suddenly pulled me into a tight hug. "I'll miss you." I forced a smile at her.

"I'll miss you too, but I need to go before Sebastian or someone else tries to give me trouble."

She frowned. "But don't you have permission?"

I hesitated. "Look, some things happened in the meeting, and I said some things that probably have consequences, but I had my reasons for doing so. I'll explain later but I need to go now." I said with a hint of urgency.

Lena began to help me locate the rest of my belongings and I checked one final time that I everything before apparating to the common lands.

"Princess?" A familiar voice sounded the moment that I had arrived.

"Marcus!" I immediately turned and gave him a hug.

"Lovely to see you again, Princess, but how in the heavens did you manage to come here?" He replied in a shocked tone.

"I-"

"Baby girl." My head snapped up instantly. Demi stood about three meters from us with a relieved smile on her face.

"Marcus, this is-"

"-your mate." He finished with a knowing smile. "I have not forgotten the day that she burst into the common lands demanding for assistance to travel to Cael because she believed that you had been taken."

I blushed as I walked over to Demi and held her hand. "Am I correct to assume that she is your reason for being here?"

I nodded and clutched my mate's hand even tighter. Markus smiled at us warmly. "True love is the strongest bond across the lands. Welcome back, Princess. Will you stay for tea?"

"We'd love to. Thank you for the invitation." I grinned happily and we followed Markus into to his home.

We walked to the back garden and I felt an odd feeling of nostalgia pass over me as I spotted the familiar gazebo and apple tree. "Please, take a seat at the gazebo. I'll bring refreshments." I smiled at him before slowly walking towards the gazebo.

I touched the wooden poles in reminiscence, smiling fondly at the memories that surfaced. I looked up to see Demi watching me curiously. "Daniel and I used to come here all the time. He'd hide inside the gazebo whenever he got in trouble. Like the time he stepped on Markus' daisy patch."

Demi smiles softly and walked over to me. "Have you seen him since..."

"No," I replied sadly. "I know he's alive. That's all."

"How-"

I sighed. "His sister, Marci, managed to get a message to Cael for me after I recovered. She reassured me that Daniel was alright, but that it was much too dangerous for us to see each other or communicate. I tried to write back and ask how he managed to defend himself against Charles and Tristan's accusations of treason but she never replied."
