It was ten years later when Betty Cooper was at the edge of Riverdale. Her eyes focusing on the sign of Riverdale as she drove past it, entering the town again. She was nervous to be back here, nervous to see all her class mates again, nervous to see him again. They had let it stick. She remembered their last conversation at that parking lot just beside the Whyte Wyrm. She remembered every word of it.
Please, go home.
Those three words had haunted her for the past ten years, even when she moved out of Riverdale. And now she was back, and the words came back in her brain, making her want to numb away the pain that started to ache in her heart again.
She wish they hadn't let it stick. She wished they ended up together again, but that was not the case. And after Betty left for college at the other side of America, her and Jughead had never spoken again.
There had been zero boyfriends for her, her mind constantly thinking about that beanie wearing heart-breaker. She remembered how the words stabbed a knife into her heart and how the tears had stung behind her eyes as he walked away.
And yet again, here she was. In the middle of Riverdale, parking her car in front of Riverdale High. The school building was decorated with bright lights and a huge sign hung in front of the main door.
Welcome, students of 2019!
Nervously Betty left her car and stared at the open school doors for a while. Outside it was dark, but the light from inside the school made it quite clear that she saw Veronica leaving her car just two spots away from her.
She smiled and when Veronica noticed her, the two ran into each others arms. "B!" Veronica exclaimed, almost squeezing her best friend in the tight hug. The two friends pulled away with smiles on their faces.
"You came!" She enthusiastically said, clearly surprised by that fact. Probably just as surprised as Betty was herself.
When she was in her apartment and found the invitation for the reunion, her first instinct was to throw it away and not look at it. Although something inside her kept telling her this was a good idea. And now she was here, with no way out.
Betty and Veronica entered the school together, catching up, laughing, having fun. Inside, the school was decorated exactly like Betty had decorated the prom in their High school lives. Even though it was amazing they remembered exactly how she had done it back then, a lump formed in her throat about how terrible that day ended.
How the arrest of Fp had broken Jughead into pieces.
Betty shook her thoughts away as Veronica led her to the grown up Archie and Kevin. "Betty! You're here." Archie said happily and immediately went in for a hug.
"Arch! Yeah, I wouldn't miss it!" Betty said, her voice laced with excitement. Her heart was still pounding ten thousand times per second but she tried to hide it the best she could.
After Archie, Kevin had abruptly wrapped his arms around Betty and lifted her in the air, making the blonde squeal loudly.
Once he put her back on the ground, the four friends started catching up. They talked about Betty's life at the FBI, Archie and Veronica's engagement, and of course, Kevin's love life.
Betty had never expected to have so much fun and hear so many fun stories. What she also knew for sure was that her friends purposely didn't bring up Jughead once. Everyone knew the bad terms they ended on, and they also knew how hard it was for Betty to move on. Well, at least try to.
But when Betty's head took one swung backwards, her eyes flicked over the well-known grey beanie with the soft dark locks spilling from underneath it. Her heart stopped in her chest and her eyes fixated on him.
